The Eezi-Awn Manta 270 Awning is an innovative design that takes the design of the Bat 270 Awning one step further, creating a larger 270-degree footprint of free standing coverage to the back and side of your vehicle. This version mounts to the passenger side of your vehicle and provides more than 100 sq. ft. of shade. The Manta 270 features a full-aluminum frame construction with 260-gram waterproof ripstop canvas panels, integrated height-adjustable legs, and a UV-resistant PVC cover. Best of all, its made in Eezi-Awn’s Johannesburg South Africa facility, the same facility as their famous Series 3 and XKLUSIV roof top tents. It's guaranteed quality that you can rely on!

Had mine for about 5 or 6 years now and had to come back to this video to see if I had been packing it wrong. The fabric of the awning bulges the most at the center of the awning bag. This is the area that I struggle so much with in getting it to close. I often place a metal rod or use a pair of pliers to grip the zipper head just to get more grip and fear that I might pop the zipper or break the zipper pull. In watching this video around the 5:40 mark, how does Paul have so much room to zip the bag with such ease??? I scratch my head. I fold my awning several times and see that Paul rolls the awning up. I can't fathom why this would be any different and I will attempt this on my next camping trip. I love this awning for its features. I used it several times at Burning Man and never had an issue with it. Secured it with the legs and tied it down with 12" lag screws (that's the key) on the playa. I never used it without its legs. I like the height when gravity isn't pulling the tips of the awning down. Left it out full time during the days there and it can get really windy. Not a single problem. Hadn't used it with much rain yet. Had rain; just no downpours to test yet. Another point of concern I have is the three buckles to secure the awning when rolled up is fastened in a way where I almost always have to unfold the awning just to grab the buckle. They could had redesigned it so that it won't catch when operating or have it longer instead. The same straps can also be a tad longer and have stopper ends. It sucks when the straps come off the buckle which had happened twice on me by accident (user error). There are many other sturdier and leg-free designs out there (such as in S.Africa) but they are considerably heavier. When shopping, consider the weight limitations of your rack. The Manta 270 was a great compliment to my James Baroud XXL and Rhino Rack. I'm maxed out on weight limitations otherwise would had gotten one that you can do pull-ups in. :)

Folding the fabric flat is the way to get the awning closed with some room. Rolling the fabric will bunch it up more. We usually take around 3-4 inches and fold it multiple times with the flat fabric folds lining up parallel with the stowed awning arms on the last fold. The buckles can be annoying if they fold back down into the bag before the arms are swung back in. We usually fold the cover back behind the awning mounts and we will try to flip those buckles behind the awning with the cover. I've learned to do this every time, otherwise you have to swing the arms out just enough to grab those straps, like you said. You are correct, there are quite a few awnings out there that don't need legs regardless of wind, but they tend to be heavier awnings. There are also lighter weight awnings that cannot be used without the legs. Ours land in the middle, lightweight yet functional as a freestandign awning. I put the legs down everytime though, easy enough but I can't gaurantee there wont' be a big gust. Lots of options for everyone.

Why do all the awning videos set up in the afternoon? not a single scrap of shade under the shade while shooting. Show me the shade!!!

I like that it sets up 90° off the side of the vehicle I don’t like the fact that your arms are c channels instead of a box beam, the box beam being much stronger. So I consider that a design flaw

I couldn’t help but notice it created no shade. Except the presenters shadow. Might be a better rain cover.

Well, that would depend on what time of day it is, right? lol.

Just depends on we’re sun is. You can always move your vehicle a bit to help with shade. 😁

whats the total weight if the awning and what kind of rack did you attached it to.

The Manta Awning weighs approximately 50 lbs (23 kg). To balance the torque of this particular style awning, it's essential that you have 5" of vertical mounting space. This can easily be achieved by using the Eezi-Awn K9 Roof Rack System, which is what you see in the video. They make the rack itself and various accessories specifically built to mount the Manta, as well as provide storage solutions on the rack for shovels, axes, Alu-Boxes, and more! do you not need to peg it out(down) in windy conditions?
@Equipt1

While the Manta can definitely withstand inclement weather, it never hurts to add additional weight as a precaution. This can be anything from hanging a duffel bag to using stakes, etc.

Hey Paul no matter what awning you buy always peg them down. Hate to see a gust of wind come by and blow it like a balloon going through the air when it s loosing air. If that does happen the poles could bend so bad that you will have to remove it from roof rack just to get it home cause it won’t close properly. I’m trying to put a bit of freight into you cause you don’t want this to happen on any of your expeditions then your stuck with a bill or just pissed you damaged your awning. I’m not saying this awning is bad what I’m saying is it can happen to any awning you purchase. Just be safe with it and you will always enjoy it buddy. 😁. Now you know 😁

The aluminum is thin when you feel it but not once had I felt that my awning quality was a concern. The fabric is heavy and so the awning arms bow at the ends due to weight. Other designs from other brands may not do this but they're also a lot heavier. If weight is not a factor for you and your rack and setup, then go for the free standing versions. I used my Manta 270 each year at Burning Man (total of 3 years now) and with the strong gusts of winds and all, not a single problem. I left it deployed full time during the full 7 days. If you know anything about Burning Man, the winds can get pretty strong in the wide open lake bed. I used 12" lag screws to anchor it solid to the ground and adjusted my guy ropes when and if they got loose. Had not experienced heavy downpours with this yet.

This is over priced and the length of it compared to others means you have to be right up against a hot car. No ty. My awning sticks out further and gives me shade no matter what direction. If the lack is on the side where that awning is then you get burnt to crisp. So my thought on are still the same. Over priced, worthless. So get a clue dude. This awning doesn't cover you in all circumstances to enjoy the view . Who in the hell wants to be so close to a hot rig . Not me. But apparently you do. And that comment about women. Wow. Male shovinistic pig. I know plenty of women who could drive circles around you and apparently know more geometry than you. . The angles are all wrong for this awaning
