Imagine a story of a world war II “hero” whose Jewish parents were killed in the Holocaust. In order to avenge her dead parents, she managed to commit even more holocaust against the Jews in order to get to Hitler, while never missed an opportunity to blame everything on Douglas MacArthur for not saving her even though he was too busy fighting the Japanese in a totally different continent. Yeah, that’s Reva’s story.

The most impactful use of "May the Force be With You" for me, was when Han said it to Luke. He isn't a believer in the Force, but he cannot say what he really feels about knowing that Luke is going off to probably die. So, he uses a statement that means something to Luke. It is the only way he can express the feelings that a cynical, well-traveled, world-weary smuggler cannot allow himself to reveal.

I am so tired of this cliche where the "villain" justifies his/her horrible actions by blaming another character for not preventing something he couldn't have prevented because he can't be everywhere all at once. And yet they work for the real people he/she should be mad at. It is so damn stupid that we seem to have this moral that if something bad happens and the hero isn't there to stop it, that must mean he's guilty of something and should feel like a horrible person. Darth Vader held his lightsaber in Reva's gut for like a good 5+ seconds. That should have cooked her insides, killing her almost instantly. They literally showed us Reva cutting through the blast door with her lightsaber only moments earlier, the same blast door that couldn't be penetrated by a gun that seemed to be built for that purpose. Lightsabers are one of the most inconsistent aspects of modern Star Wars. Sometimes it goes clean through solid metal, other times it bounces off of armor that can't even stop a blaster bolt.

I feel like the reason why people (myself included) are far more accepting of what happened to Maul than all the other death fakeouts is because the Clone Wars TV show actually used his supposed “death” to expand his character in interesting ways. Every motivation Maul has stems from his traumatic defeat in episode 1. The obvious side effect of this is his seething hatred for Kenobi and desire, which heavily motivates his action all the way up to his actual death decades later. But the far more interesting effect his death has is with his relationship with Palpatine. Upon returning to the wider galaxy, Maul discovers that role as apprentice had been replaced by Dooku and that his master's grand plan (which he himself helped set in motion) his already transpiring without him. He had been abandoned, forgotten, used as a tool and then cast aside when his usefulness has expired. He has lost everything he once had and is now forced to survive in a universe completely foreign to him And with nothing to turn to, he falls back to the most basic instinct of the Sith, to accrue power. he spends season 5 and onwards as a sort of desperate opportunist. Time and time again we see him pathetically grasping at whatever semblance of power he can get his hands, and time and time again we see him lose it all (firstly with with the pirates in the start of season 5 and then with the Mandalorians and crime syndicates later on). And moment when he DOES manage to gain a sizable power base through taking control of Mandalore, his master Palpatine personally shows up to show him how weak and powerless he truly is. The audience as made to feel sorry for him as he loses everything he has again and again, even when he thought he had nothing left to lose The final season of Clone Wars further expands his character by combining his two primary character motivations (power and revenge) into one. It's become clear to him that all of his fruitless bids for power are nothing compared the masterfully crafted plans of his Sith master, and so he redirects his efforts into trying to unravel his masters plans in one final bid for both power and revenge (at his master for all the suffering he put him through) But even that fails, with Palpatine and the Republic not deeming him a big enough threat to even send Kenobi and Skywalker to, making the gambit he sacrificed his entire army for ultimately pointless. The last time we see him is in Rebels, where he is nothing but a pitiful old man stranded on a desolate wasteland with nothing to live for. at this point in his life, he had truly lost everything (his legs in episode 1, his brother in season 5, his mother in the comics, and his empire in season 7). the only thing he has left is Kenobi. despite being bitter enemies, Kenobi had remained the one constant in his life, even as the galaxy itself seemed to change around him. And so Maul devotes his final mission in life to hunting down the man who started him down this wretched path, not only hoping to kill the elusive Jedi (as one tiny victory in a life filled with defeat after defeat) but also partially hoping that the Jedi master would be the one to kill him (a form of assisted suicide to free himself from a life of suffering). But even as Maul is struck down in their final duel, Obi-Wan cradles his dying body in his hands, comforting him in his final moments. Despite the two spending all their lives as bitter enemies, despite Maul killing both Obi-Wan's master and lover, Kenobi and Maul spend their final moments together as kindred spirits, people who have both lost so much at the hands of the Darkside. Obi Wan even gives him a glimmer of hope before he dies, assuring him that the Chosen One will avenge them both. This is why, despite the fact that him surviving is ridiculous as fuck, any complaints of him surviving are quickly drowned out by the fact that it led to him becoming one of the most fleshed out and compelling characters in all of Star Wars (in my humble opinion). It's a real shame how Darth Maul's survival has set an awful precedent of Disney Star Wars bringing dead characters coming back to life without any of the good writing that made Maul's return so dearly loved in the first place. (he's basically the No Man's Sky of Star Wars characters)
@frederickambaritaa80572 жыл бұрын
It also helps that him getting sliced in half doesn't get brushed aside as a minor setback. Getting chopped in half severely impacted maul both physically and mentally. When we first see Maul again in the season 4 finale, he's a rambling lunatic uncontrollably scuttling around with his scrap metal legs (which aren't robotic by the way, they're literally random chunks of metal purely held together by the force). It's clear to the audience that the sheer weight of all the suffering he's been through has completely shattered his mind like glass. He keeps muttering incoherent phrases and scrambling around like an animal. He's even lured around by following a bright glowing orb, showing how far his mind as regressed. Compare that to Cad Bane's so called "death". In the deleted scene of Clone Wars, Cad bane "dies" challenging Boba to a duel in order to save the lives of a group of other people. But in the Bad Batch he's seems just fine with no lasting impact other than a metal plate in his head. This is terrible because this absolutely kills the narrative significance of the Boba vs Bane duel (which we know canonically happened because of the head plate). That duel was supposed to be a symbolic "passing of the torch" moment between the greatest bounty hunter of the Clone Wars era and the greatest bounty hunter of the Imperial era. Now that we know Bane only suffered a fleshwound, it really doesn't feel all too impactful anymore. what's worse is that Disney literally redid this exact scenario again in Book of Boba Fett except worse in every conceivable way.

Here Reva is stabbed in the middle of the jedi temple massacre. who gave her medical attention? Sabine surviving is BS, but at least there they can say Ahsoka arrived a second after she was stabbed. It's still stupid, but not as stupid. Reva is stabbed where literally no one will help her both times, and she makes it out fine. All 3 jedi (kit fitso, agen kolar, seasee tiin) who went to arrest Palpatine could easily have survived as they were only stabbed or slashed. Mace windo had his had cut off and was hit with a little force lightning. Why would he be dead? jedi can manage to survive great falls. At this point, the only way someone doesn't get resurrected is if thier head is destroyed or cut off.

SPOILERS TO THE SEASON FINALE: Screw this series. Vader orders the entire ship to turn around for Obi-Wan, letting the rebels go, (instead of using a magnetic beam, or sending tie-fighters, or just keep firing...)... but ends up getting into his shuttle and flying after it himself , thus missing out on the rebels for no reason at all. Obi-Wan trusts Leia to some random rogue who has already seeded his transmitter... The duel with Vader is miserable. They wave their swords like baseball bats in episode 9, and the Force has generally turned into an anime - they crush rocks and make craters in the ground, but they can’t break each other’s bones in the same way ... they can withstand the blows of multi-ton boulders ... Obi-Wan, without jokes, becomes a god thanks to the power of friendship and lifts weight much more than Yoda ... at some point he hits Vader with the HILT of the sword ... cuts his back, but that doesn’t paralyse him ... and most importantly, he doesn’t finish him off for the second time, although he himself said his friend is dead... Vader does not call the cruiser to shoot down Obi-Wan's ship, but it turns out that he has a hyperdrive, which makes the whole last episode even more pointless, since he and Leia could fly to Alderaan on it all this time already at the end of episode 4 .. . Owen and Beru do not set any traps for Reva in the doors, they only shoot her one at the time, do not catch up with her on a speeder, do not evacuate on the speeder, do not call the local police, the same Jabba the Hutt (with the promise of money), and Luke is advised to run on foot into the desert, to the Tuskens... Reva with a hole in her HEART can easily fight, run and carry weights ... And finally, she, who cuts off the hands of all those who disagree, throws knives at people, kills everyone in her path, hunts the Jedi trying to kill them, tortures a 10-year-old child , suddenly cannot kill Luke, because he sees himself in him (but not in Leah) ... by the way, why? Does she know he's Vader's son? How? And Obi-Wan forgives her, although he saw what she was doing and Tala died because of her... Now the whole Empire knows that Bail Organa communicates with Obi-Wan, they are looking for him all over the galaxy, but at the same time Obi-Wan quietly flies to Alderaan to chat with Leia... Obi-Wan communicates with Luke, although Owen told him in A New Hope that he died at the same time as his father ... Qui-gon, it turns out, can appear without any meditation, but the whole series did not do this ... As a result - Obi-Wan, Owen, Beru, Bale failed their missions to protect children, and they are only alive because the Empire and Vader are even more incompetent, and Reva suddenly became kind ... and now we are waiting for a series about her ... Thank you Disney, now you've ruined every single character in the original trilogy. Star Wars is long dead, and there's no more room for nails in the coffin.

I hate how Maul surviving has opened up the Pandora’s box of reviving any character you want. The worst part is they’re somehow doing it so much worse than the Clone Wars handled it. When Maul was revived in the Clone Wars, he was this insane mindless spider monster living off scraps on a junk planet. He was only brought back to his former self after a long arc of his brother bringing him back through some nightsister magic bs. Even after he came back, the show took advantage of this by essentially giving him his own season of trying to take over the galaxy by teaming with crime lords and disgraced Mandalorians fueled by revenge against Kenobi. He ultimately fails but we get a lot of interesting episodes and interactions out of it. The Clone Wars is hardly a well written show and his return is still stupid af but it was still used way better than any of the other dumb deaths that were inspired by it. These days it’s used for generating cheap shock while devaluing the very concept of death in this universe. There was no need for them to “kill” Reeva, the Grand Inquisitor, or the sheriff when nothing notable or interesting comes out of it. It does more damage than good. Maul came back as a completely different person that impacted the entire galaxy. It took a lot to get him back to his glory and it allowed to expand the characters of him and Kenobi. It’s dumb but these Disney Star Wars fake outs are on a whole other level of meaningless poison. I will never take another death seriously in Star Wars. No one’s every really gone, I’ve lost all my investment in a franchise I used to love, and my day is ruined. Fuck.

I just find it hilarious what they did to the grand inquisitor in this show. They portrayed him as a cringe idiot who gets punted aside in favor of Disney's latest non-character character who they want to push. They literally did the thing, the thing they did to all the OT characters, to one of there own earlier characters. Disney has like 3 writing formulas that they follow to a T every time. The punting of older characters, the main character being a worthless idiot with a far more competent supporting character doing all the work, and ctrl+c-ing ctrl+v-ing the most basic plot archetypes in the most trite way imaginable. What's the point in making all these different shows if there all gonna have the same basic character archetypes and dynamics (and I use those words in the most vague sense one can)? I truly believe that they just plop out these scripts from an AI, with every series that becomes less of a funny 'what-if' joke and more of an apparent reality.

On the subject of Reva's backstory, I'd propose an alternative to your idea Mauler : - She and other kids resist and fight back against the clones - She gets so worked up that she becomes completely consumed by anger and rage (maybe the others look at her kinda afraid) - When Vader arrives, he swats her effortlessly with the Force (no lightsaber, no duel, a good old stomp), throws her into a wall for exemple. He decides to spare her (and others) because she can be easily brainwashed into an inquisitor. - She becomes one out of necessity and survival, blaming Vader, Obi-Wan and herself. Still, I'd argue that at that moment, Vader is at his most 'extremist' (having fully turned to the dark side very recently) and is in no mood to go on a recruiting trip. This can be solved with a scene of Palpatine telling him to keep the "interesting ones" when sending Vader to the Jedi temple...which I feel would be in character for the Creamy Sheev. Anyway, just an idea where you don't have someone survive an injury shown in canon to be lethal.

It's becoming increasingly more clear to me that every Star Wars production desperately needs to have a military advisor involved. The tactics and combat are just so terrible that it distracts from the actual story. Imagine how much better that whole battle scene would have been if the Stormtroopers didn't just stand in lines and then pour into a small tunnel getting shot up, rather they stacked up against the walls and breached the base in a more true to life manner. Then you can also have the Rebels taking cover and using their knowledge of the base's design to their advantage, rather than standing out in the open. Both allow for a more gritty, coherent, and emotional battle scene.

I don't think people realize just how badly this show breaks the OT. I watched "A New Hope" recently with my mom (who introduced me to Star Wars) and I noticed these things: 1. "I haven't been called Obi-Wan since long before you were born." I guess according to "Kenobi," Obi-Wan is lying to Luke about that for absolutely no reason. 2. "You served my father in the Clone Wars..." Leia's hologram message makes it sound as if Obi-Wan and her father have had no contact beyond that time period, not to mention that Leia is grasping at straws in the Rebellions most desperate hour. Looking for an obscure Jedi master (who she obviously doesn't know, given the tone of the message) to try and help tip the balance. 3. "I sense a presence, one I have not felt since..." The impact of this line is lost if both him and Obi-Wan have had multiple meetings. This is all leaving out the fact that, according to this show, the Organa family should be under a great deal of suspicion and Obi-Wan has had a bounty on his head and been hunted by the Empire, which would have the potential of ruining his undercover job in Tatooine. Ugh. So many things have been spawned from Star Wars, but I still only like the OT. How is that possible?

The Wattpad of Watto: Episode 5 *Fade In* After hiding a tracking device in a novelty Jar Jar Binks toy, Porkins (the largest Bounty Hunter in the Galaxy) tracks down Watto, Bea Arthur and young Holdo to Sand Planet Number 52. Elan Sleazebaggano is here again for some reason as well. Porkins calls for reinforcements from the Empire, who turn up with 'Grond', Sauron being a big fan of Porkins. They have to open this very thick metal door but it won't budge. They then try WD-40, a droid that is designed to loosen rusty metal but, sadly, he can do nothing. Meanwhile, the only way is blocked off by a door that won't open. Watto and Bea Arthur go to the main door to hold off Porkins whilst Young Holdo decides to fix the controls herself. When Sleazebaggano says that she can't possibly know how to do that, he is demoted despite not being a part of the Military. Holdo proceeds to repeatedly run into the wires at full speed in some sort of manoeuvre (possibly the special one she has knowledge of), which finally fixes it. Watto faces off with Porkins. The Bounty Hunter is gaining the upper hand but then, Bea Arthur arrives with WD-40 (who has switched sides for some reason). They hold off Porkins by throwing pieces of rusty metal at him that Watto has acquired. At last, the Junk Trader has reconnected with the Junk. He escapes as Bea Arthur and WD-40 sacrifice themselves. Bea Arthur is stabbed in one of her lungs but, since she has two, she will eventually shake it off in time for the Holiday Special. Vader now arrives to deal with Watto but is bamboozled by the backup ship Watto crafted together from junk. As Watto and Holdo escape, Porkins now turns on Vader, furious that he has not had his daily payment of burgers. He is stabbed in the stomach and, as he looks up, he sees none other than Jar Jar Binks. It turns out, he has been the mastermind behind this all along and made a deal. He wanted Watto out of the way... so he could get to Babu Frik. Vader and Jar Jar leave but, unbeknownst to them, Porkins has a second stomach and sets off after them.

Did you miss that she's one of the younglings in the temple? Anakin, who she knows of course, stabbed her. She knows that he's the traitor who aided the Emperor and fell to the dark side. What is actually confusing is why she thinks he wouldn't recognize her - she's a youngling, he probably came across her loads of times over the years spent at the temple, why wouldn't he know her?
@nobody29962 жыл бұрын
@@Arphemius And... That tells her he's Vader how? She doesn't know Anakin apart from him stabbing her and him being famous. Public knowledge is that he died after the temple raid. There is no connection between him and Vader unless you're someone like Tarkin or Thrawn who worked with Anakin and could recognise the simmilarities. He's not the only fallen jedi (and nothing confirms Vader is a fallen jedi), the Inquisitors are all former jedi and padawans that were recuited, the Prequel era saw three powerful dark siders, two of which having their own apprentice, popping up. There is nothing that would make her so sure that Vader is Anakin that she'd dedicate the rest of her life to trying to get close to him.

It should be noted that the fact Leia and the Organa's are known to have liaised with Obi-Wan completely refutes the idea that, in another 9-10 years, Leia needed to conceal her personal relationship with Obi-Wan in the message she smuggled to him. The empire is already aware that she knows him, which means trying to conceal this in a message (already advocating active resistance to the Empire) actually doesn't conceal a thing and serves no purpose anyway. There is no excuse for why her message in ANH was so formal, as if she'd never met Obi-Wan before. [Note: This fact also pre-emptively refutes the attempt to make the whole thing work when Obi-Wan urges secrecy at the end of the sixth episode] It also seems to me that having Obi-Wan in any way openly identified with the Organa's and Leia would make the Empire, and Vader in particular, wonder why he was involved in this specific kidnapping case in the first place. This would surely cause suspicion, and maybe even expose the fact that Anakin's children are alive, undoing the entire plot henceforth.
@elizabethtaylor84282 жыл бұрын
To conceal her personal relationship with Obi-wan, why wasn't she as heartbroken as Luke was when Darth Vader killed him on the Death Star in A New Hope? Leia didn't know who he was except through her adopted father Bail. There was never a personal relationship between them.

Not to mention, Vader should now know that Alderaan is promoting rebellion. In actuality, Imperial Propaganda should be having a heyday after the destruction of Alderaan showing how the Organa's were harboring the traitorous Jedi; which should lessen the recruitment the Rebels get after Alderaan's destruction. They brought it upon themselves, nothing peaceful about a planet promoting rebellion and harboring traitors. I swear Disney-Lucasfilm is actually Pro-Empire; despite what they say and do.

This was an excellent episode, I particularly liked the part where Leia bypassed the droid's compressor to fix its tism eyes. Anyone claiming plot holes and bad writing is undoubtedly biased and nitpicking and besides, a stormtrooper bumped his head on a door one time many decades ago. So that means that the writing in this show is good now. Jokes aside, that fight choreography between Vader and Reva reminded me of a bargain bin version of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. The bit where he effortlessly dodges all of her attacks reminded me of Li Mu Bai dodging all of Jen's attacks like they were nothing, only Reva was attacking him so slowly that it was no longer impressive and the bit where they duelled each other reminded me more generally of the kind of acrobatics that are incorporated into that movies fight scenes, only (again) Reva isn't moving quickly or acrobatically, so all that's stopping Vader taking her head off is his desire not to. Her trying to slide on the ground behind him just exposes her head and makes her look stupid. Well... more stupid.

Her decisions *could have* worked. It is *okay* to portray someone has hating themselves and lashing out. As a reckless element which contrasts the cold killing machines. You could even play with the idea of “is this 1. just the dark side’s effect on her, 2. is this a ruse to convince others she genuinely follows the dark side, or 3. is she just naturally torn up inside, destroying herself for a chance to fix things (by killing Vader)?” This doesn’t mean I think her disobedience in the show should survive as-is though. You know what else? Through flashbacks, we could have drawn parallels between how Anakin struggled with the Jedi code and how Reva struggles with Empire dogma and fealty! It could even support the Living Force doctrine adopted by Luke in the old canon, one which was sort of adopted by Obi-wan; a healthy lifestyle which would *work* for passionate characters like Reva and Anakin, an alternative between the Jedi code and self-destructive Sith malice. The contrast between getting to order around stormtroopers and having to, basically, lick the boots of your own superiors could gnaw at her pride, stomping on who she was originally as a prospective jedi.

@@carmanstriker1853 I mean if that's the case why did Obi Wan not obscure himself on the Death Star in ANH? Also most jedi would easily be able to hide if they can obscure it like that at will so the entire point of the Path seems stupid.
@burn83252 жыл бұрын
It’s hard to explain it to you, but basically it is a sort of energy. If there’s like no chance of meeting, there’s no signal. But it’s like a spidey sense. Peter doesn’t sense bread roll, he doesn’t sense someone else getting hit, but he senses it when it REALLY matters. Same for Vader etc, they can sense it when it really matters. It’s like the ‘it’s quiet, too quiet’, everyone can sense tension IRL, so Vader can sense him when somethings going to happen. If that makes sense in English for you.
@robertwhite98892 жыл бұрын
Okay so Vader sparing/not dealing with Reeva is so out of character it is unreal and hurts the OT actually. Let try to explain both points. In Jedi:FO at the end of the game you fight the second sister and finally manage to talk to her, and seemingly convince her towards potentially become a good person again. Then dad Vader shows up and is disappointed with her as he should be, but then to try and buy you time the second sister attacks Vader. And he slices her in two because of course he does because that who he is. He doesn't falter, he is cold, dispassionate with ruthless determination. Hence from Obi-wan "he is more machine than man now" isn't just about how is a cyborg it is about how he acts. Why does hurt the OT? Well it kind of undermines the whole of Luke's action at the end of RoTJ. By not making Vader this ruthless killer it makes it less impactful that Luke is willing to disarm himself, infront of the emporer becuase he believes in his father behind the mask of Vader. Anyway long rant over.
