National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete has called a special meeting of the rules committee in the wake of the disruptions in Parliament. *****
The Constitution affords all South Africans the right to see and hear what happens in Parliament.
For the last 7 years and for the benefit of subscribers and the community “My Africa” search for sequences that are newsworthy, interesting, funny etc. From a, sometimes long and boring, Parliament sitting allowing the community the opportunity to choose which sequence they find interesting and want to watch.
As a result “My Africa” adds significant value to those effected by the exceptionally high cost of Data and Pay TV.
Also “My Africa” allows the community to comment and contribute to discussions in a meaningful manner and take stories forward.
However, we will NOT condone the following:
- Racism (including offensive comments based on ethnicity and nationality)

- Homophobia
- Religious intolerance
- Cyber bullying
- Hate speech
- Derogatory language
- Comments inciting violence.

Additionally, Rule 127(3) states that a committee may hold a meeting while the National Assembly is in session, but any member of the committee who is also a member of the National Assembly is expected to attend the plenary session of the House if required. This implies that attending committee meetings does not exempt members from attending plenary sessions of the National Assembly. Therefore, while there is no specific rule that permits the National Assembly to proceed with a meeting even if a committee meeting is taking place at the same time, the Speaker has the authority to determine the order of business, and members are still expected to attend plenary sessions even if they also serve on committees.
