Ghana has embarked upon a journey to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by 2030. UHC in Ghana's context has been defined as "Universal access to high quality services independent of the ability to pay at the point of use". This session shall throw lights on the score card assessments of Ghana's health systems, patient safety, quality of mental healthcare, prevention and curative services provisions in Ghana.
In 2021, National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) of Ghana covers 16.7 million population i.e. 53% of the total population - much below the target of having 100% NHIS coverage. The "quality" dimension of efficiency, in particular, for curative services is being used to improve coverage. Preventive services like immunization and maternal health related care, are widely available at sub-district levels including for Community-based Health Planning and Services. In regard to mental healthcare, the services are not adequate in terms of both provisions and quality, and so, is the coverage within the Universal Healthcare in Ghana.
