When you install a smart air/vapor barrier like Intello on the interior, how can you make penetrations into the drywall for things like hanging art or a TV? 1:52

If the intello is your air barrier, you'll want to install that somewhere that will have as little penetrations as possible. This is where chases come into play. Don't have the Intello directly behind your drywall. If the Intello is only for your vapour barrier, I would not be concerned about it.

If you install xps foam on the exterior with fibreglass batt insulation is a Vapor barrier still recommend, I’m in Ontario not too far from you.

It depends on where the dew point is in your wall assembly. You may need to run it through a WUFI model. Ultimately, the code calls for a vapour barrier on the "warm" side of the wall assembly. Although that changes throughout the year, the inspector will want to see that on the interior unless you can show that it's not needed.

@@Theconsciousbuilder any suggestions on insulating and air sealing a garage ceiling with apartment on top?

Do those numbers include framing?
@Theconsciousbuilder Жыл бұрын
They do not include framing or siding. If you're looking for more on framing costs, you'll want to check out this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rpazdGB-btihgNk

Very Interesting video. What about Passive Housing?

We have used many of these projects in Passive House Builds. The assembly my vary based on the details of your project. We did make a video about a Passive House wall assembly you can watch here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/faTYm4KpoLyjopIsi=5S7nsr2qmbBQua6F

is there a rule of thumb/heuristic that can apply to r values of walls when trying to make an offgrid or grid collapse passivhaus that can remain warm in winter up to -50C or cool in summer up to 50C?

Not sure if one exists, there are so many factors. That would be a good question for your energy advisor.

hi mate , when you say square foot, is that generic square foot or the wall area?
@Theconsciousbuilder9 ай бұрын
This is wall area. Thanks for watching!

So when you’re giving prices per square foot for materials I'm guessing that you are calculating these for the wall area - ie a 10' long wall that was 10 feet high would be 100 sq' so 100sq' of WRB. But when you're giving a square foot cost for something like Roxul cavity insulation should you deduct the wall area taken up by framing members inside the wall? For example, if the framing takes up 30% of the 100 sq' wall area you’d really only need to buy 70 square feet of cavity insulation instead of 100 square feet.

the Rockwool batts come in at 15.25-in x 47-in for 16-in O.C. that accounts for 50% of your framing wall and keep in mind you also need some compression for the batts to stay in place. Rockwool has some online calculators which can also help.

Adhero looks like a lot more work than zip

It's more work but not necessarily more costs. Depends on the circumstance.
