I actually like the fact she dropped off the commercial radar so to speak. She's reinvented herself in a way, and it's refreshing, she's still so young. She could yet be the next Meryl Streep, oppose to being just another child actress who couldn't handle the spotlight, so ended up being a walking train wreck.Good on her.

Effie Gray was married to John Ruskin, a respected scholar of the Victorian era. It's a story based on historical facts. Ruskin had little or no sexual experience with women and married Effie because marriage was expected of him and he thought she conformed to ideal Victorian womanhood. He was horrified when he discovered she was a flesh and blood woman (apparently he rejected her on their wedding night for having pubic hair, something he'd never seen on marble statues or nude paintings of the day). Eventually she fell in love with someone else and after NINE YEARS (or something) of marriage she fought to have the marriage annulled, based on the fact that it was never consummated. Also, Ruskin used to go on holiday with his parents and just leave her behind.

Dakota Fanning has always been immensely talented since she was a child, and I feel like she's still got heaps more potential. And Emma Thompson is one of the greatest actresses of our time. So I'm very much looking forward to this haha. I hope it's good

@@redvinesron don’t forget this was released in 2014. So you need to deduct 6-7 years from their ages. So he was was around 47/48 and she was about 20. In reality when they got married, she was 20 and he was almost 30. So Dakota’s age does correspond with the film but not his.

I love movies set way back in old times. Dakota at her finest here. So grown up. Can't wait to see this. All the actors from harry potter is so awesome. Sweeney Todd has bellatrix and snape and worm tail in it. I love that movie too.

I would like it more if I had some idea as to what the movie will actually be about. There is a young girl who is sad about her married life and (maybe) a threat of poisoning. But that's it. The music treats it like a quirky dramatic thriller but I find nothing dramatic about it. I love Dakota, however.

There is a book written by Joanne Harris called "Sleep, Pale Sister". This movie based on this book or it based on the story which eventually the book based on too? The story in the book is about young teen Effie who got married to middle-age painter who has some "I-love-children-soooo-much" kinda thing. And as Effie gets older he tries to get rid of her. At the same time she fells in love with another guy
