Would be great to see one with a few more $$$ spent on a nice (bigger) colour screen. I reckon most people would be OK spending a little more.

I really enjoyed your video! I am building these experimental avionics for my senior project. I am curious about how you connect pitot and static port and tube with the instrument. Are they available on your website? Thanks!

I have been pricing full EFIS from Dynon, Garmin and GRT for a RV-7 project. The price is eye watering. I am not thinking portable GPS and iPad based system, which can be had at a fraction of the full meal deal systems. However the full systems are amazing. if you go whole hog, EFIS, Map, EIS, Com, ADS-B Mode S with WX.Trafic, 2-Axis Autopilot you are going to be well over $12,000. You get a lot. To go ala cart radio and ADS-B compliant transponder is $4,000 or more. If you add ala cart autopilot add another $3,000, so these systems do have good value. The integration is what is so cool.

Yes, Dynon and Garmin are pricey. As far as I understand most of their price is R&D and support. When you do DIY avionics, you don't have any of these costs.

@@experimentalavionics2596 I wonder if there is any limitation there with ADS-B transmitters. Receiving is pretty easy, but I don't know what the regulatory requirements are for transmitters.

@@microcolonel ADS-B transmitter requires an approval from communication authorities (FCC, ACMA, etc). Too much effort :)

any thought to using RC/Drone Flight controllers instead of the base ardu? they have the magnetometer, Barometer, and Accellerometers on-board usually, and much faster.
@experimentalavionics25966 жыл бұрын
I have considered that. Decided that the R&D time would be about the same, but building the thing from scratch is much more fun.

Very cool projects, Oleg. Just discovered your EFIS. I am working on building a Gyro, in which zero-G is extremely dangerous. Since you already have the G's being logged, is there any way to implement a low-G alarm? perhaps a buzzer or blinking light?
@experimentalavionics25966 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the idea. It is very easy to implement and I'll include it into the next version.

Have you thought of using the board to drive a tablet? Great work!
@experimentalavionics25967 жыл бұрын
That thought crossed my mind but I dont want to add any complexity at this stage. I plan to feed the data via Bluetooth or WiFi to an iOS device in parallel with the EFIS screen

Hi, Thank you for your interest. I have tried a few colour displays and none of them was readable enough under direct sunlight. So I settled for the simple monochrome LCD.

Very cool Oleg! This is something I am interested in making. Do you have plans to build a low cost autopilot and GPS?
@experimentalavionics25967 жыл бұрын
Autopilot could be fun project from software design point, but the cost of servos will eliminate all the financial benefits of doing it.
@experimentalavionics25966 жыл бұрын
I plan to include a GPS unit, but it will be for data analysis rather than navigation. For navigation I use OzRunways on my iPad. :) Autopilot is not a priority either

For those not familiar with arduino. make video for how to use files you have, on to the EFIS

There are thousands of such videos on KZbin. If you are new to Arduino, lookup "Arduino blinker". It will give you all the info to get going.

If you haven't learned about arduinos yet... Get with it. I love their simplicity and power. I've made a automatic chicken door, PWM based battery charger/maintainer, a voltage regulator for a 3 phase generator (saved me $400), fireworks ignition system, and other small projects. Arduino is awesome. Literally.
