Yeah my dad would've been like 91 he used to teach me when i was a kid. Been playin since i was probably 6 years old I was beating 40 year olds at 12 years old. Hello Naomi ! I'm also 73 and I enjoyed watching pool from the 60's and 70's. Name any legend and they were right there on TV! I also remember watching the top women players. It had to be mid 2000's in the Jersey area. I totally loved it! Where did TV pool go? Shame.

Ummm, yeah, all of them were that. Luck doesn't exist, first of all, but statistical anomalies certainly do. The uninitiated define this as luck. They don't very often decide matches, but it does happen occasionally. A fluke right at the end of a match can do that though, and does occasionally, but really that doesn't happen all that often, because pros generally make what they are shooting at, and the few times they get hooked 'luck' rarely enters into the equation. More often they will get 'lucky' rolls to safeties and often they raise their hand when it was not intentional, but usually, since it's statistical, those average out nicely over the long term. The fact that that always happens demonstrates that luck is just when those events are going your way. People find patterns in things all the time that have no patterns whatsoever. Just like they see faces in the moon or on Mars when none exist. The lucky statements are just Efren being humble, which is just Efren, and one of the things people love about him, beyond his stellar skill. He was chosen the pro player's favorite several times when they were polled.

I'm from NYC and we had the greatest pool players in the world right here. I never saw Willie Mosconi play live, but my father, and others called him the best ever. My dad watched this guy Efren on ESPN a few times and said he would've loved see him play Mosconi. He recognized how good Reyes was immediately, just from the hours upon hours he spent himself shooting pool at Julian's and other pool halls. As for me, Efren Reyes is the best I ever saw. You guys do know that it could have just as easily been Johnny who did this, right? There is probably not a top pro alive who doesn't have several tournament six packs in their past, and higher. Strickland did a ten pack for one million dollars once, five hundred thousand of which he actually got. All that said, Efren is definitely my favorite to watch. At least he's still playing one pocket, and he's still a master at it. I miss him playing the other games, and his occasional magic. I could kind of live without the interspersed nonsense here, though. Nobody laughs at a pro for missing a shot like that, especially when they have been that long in the chair, and certainly Efren would have NO part in that. It is completely inappropriate and childish. Efren has pulled that stunt too, many times I'll wager. There were several pros that could out shoot Efren when he came to the US (by his own admission). The real next level talent that Efren brought to the game wasn't really even on display here, which was being able to kick out of brutal safeties INTO brutal safeties. I'm guessing some of that came from his first class level carom skills. Johnny was likely one of the most prolific nine ball winners in the last couple of decades, with at least one win in just about every tournament normally on the pro tour. Many very much in the know (other pros) still say he's one of the straightest shooters that's ever lived, so there's that.

Not to take anything at all away from Efren, who is obviously a huge, huge talent, but once the pros began to get the break shot down in 9 ball, the game almost became too easy for them. That's what lead to the advent of the popularity of10 ball in professional pool, a game much harder to break and run out in, especially consistently. Even though a 6 pack is quite an accomplishment, it's not that uncommon amongst the top players, especially with the aid of two 9 balls going in on the break shot. So, a race to 9 is really not much of a contest for these champions; and certainly not at their level of play. I've run 6 myself, and I sure don't compare my game to that of these two fellas. It could have easily gone the other way, as Archer is definitely no slouch, and he had a very strong break, as well, among the best of his day. A race to 9 best of three, or race to 7 best of five, or at least a race to 13, at this level, seems more the appropriate contest of who is truly playing the best. IMHO. Great shooting by Efren, (as usual!).

For some unknown reason, this is the only big-time tournament that Reyes failed to win. In terms of over-all placement, he is up there because he was runner-up 3 times (to Lely, Strickland and Souquet) but somehow was not able to bring it home. The 1999 Finals is specially frustrating because he was already on the hill (leading 6-4 in a race to 7) but Lely grabbed the last 3 racks. Several lesser players were able to win here at least once.

Of course it is, by definition. The definition of a game win (running OUT, as in out of the game) includes those events. It's not your definition that counts, it is the rule makers of the games he is playing, and the nomenclature, like running out, evolves from the players over time. See, evolution is not retarded at all. Only the people that refuse to accept evolution, when it's one of the most supported theories out there, from many different angles (not angels) and scientific specialties, are a little 'special'. This usually arises from belief and often misinterpretation of religious documents, basically reading them like a two year old. I believed in evolution for at least ten years starting in high school when my high school teacher lied and said there was evidence. I believed it very strongly and so wanted it to be true. But after doing research on both creation and evolution, I saw evolution has nothing to do with reality at all since we don’t see it happen today and there’s no evidence that it has ever happened .
