My feeling is, at this stage of their careers: Earl Strickland is the Led Zeppelin of the game of Pool. At the same time Efren Bata Reyes is the Rolling Stones of the game of Pool. However, in the future that order will change places. Excellent match so far at the end of Part 3 of 5. Thanks Efren and Earl.

The commentator said (somewhere round the middle of this one) that they rarely use side-spin. I noticed Efren at any rate often using it - is that what you call 'English'? (in snooker it just gets called left or right-hand 'side'). Oh yeah - great match !!

Even though the game of 9 ball is so enjoyable to watch, it is difficult for me to behold such a fine pool player connected to such an obnoxious and revolting personality as Strickland. Efren is the saving grace. I would never watch a match between Earl and any other player than Efren.

It was strange to hear of the players styles Efren admired most, he chose Mike Sigel. It's hard to imagine more polar opposite techniques between two players. Efren never emulated anything of Sigel's methods as far as I know.
@rogerscottcathey Жыл бұрын
Isn't that MARK Wilson? Or, who is "Mike" Wilson?
@naturalselection120311 ай бұрын
He chose Mike Sigel because Mike was the only player from the states side who was able to beat Efren when Efren first arrived in the US. Until Sigel achieved that no other player matched the skill of Efren. Of course, later, you had Earl, who was giving tough competition to Efren, but the players either Sigel or Earl had better records in 9 ball over Efren, but overall, Efren excels in all games especially one pocket.

Is this the tournament where when Reyes was asked if hes playing in the Hong Kong tournament, he said no, he isnt traveling that far, and then they told him there was a 100k prize for first place and he drove straight to the airport?
@naturalselection712 жыл бұрын
I don't think this is a tournament of any kind. This is a match organised by the owner of the billiards hall in Hongkong called Ridgeways. The owner just wanted to know who among these two is the best player in the world. The prize money was announced already. On the other hand when Efren was invited by the Emir of UAE to play with and teach pool to the friends of Emir, Efren was playing a tournament in US, and he refused the invitation citing distance. Then the Emir offered him 40,000 USD and a first class ticket. After the new offer, Efren withdrew from the tournament, and headed straight to the airport.

It was very obvious that Efren Reyes wasn't lucky on this game although he played very well but wasn't able to make balls at the break not because he wasn't hitting them very well but it was very bad luck Earl Strickland on the other hand was so lucky and that doesn't mean he's a bad player or he didn't play well but he was always getting an easy shots at the break. both of them are my favorite I love them to death and they're the greatest players of all time

@@tonym2513 Ok you to clarify pro tournaments use 4 inch or 4 1/4 inch pockets. I’ve also talked to the pro pool player at the local pool hall and he verified this. Judging by the pool table it looks like 4 inch pockets. Maybe 4 1/4 at the most. I play on a bar box table with pockets 4 3/4 inch. There is no way they would play on pockets that size. They would never miss. They barely miss with tight pockets
