Bands with big ideas work well at the Tiny Desk. Efterklang is a Danish group whose recent album Piramida took its members to an abandoned mining town between the North Pole and Norway. There, they recorded sounds of empty oil tanks, old pianos and pretty much anything they could strike or record.
It's precisely that creative energy that led to Efterklang ransacking our kitchen utensils and desks in search of sound-making material. The band is a joy to witness live with a small orchestra, but it's equally compelling just the way it is here, huddled around my desk and trying ideas it's never tried. A true adventure. --BOB BOILEN

hey man - don't listen to those other dudes telling you off. You are right! the rhythm is tricky and very easy to get the down/upbeat mixed up and it changes the perception of the song. We know exactly what you are talking about :-) Stay cool - Rasmus / Efterklang

Hvor er det fedt at et dansk band har spillet i dette fantastiske "tiny desk concert" projekt. Efterklang er super genialt, og det er den her kanal også! YES!!! :D

Saw them play in Seattle a couple of weeks ago. It was the best concert that I have ever been to. Incredible artists and amazing stage presence. I would pay tripple the money to see them again.

that last song tripped me up rhythmically. The whole time what I thought was the downbeat was actually the upbeat. So I just got a very interesting interpretation of that song

After I finished uploading my KZbin video, "Tiny Concert Hall: Symphony Orchestra Model," a group of Efterklang videos showed up. I'm not sure how Efterlkang linked to my video, the latter which presents humorous plans for an 8 ft x 20 ft trailer-based concert hall! As a classical music composer, I find Efterklang to have a very interesting sound.

Actually I perfectly understood what he meant. Rhythm can do that to the ear sometimes. And you can play with that deliberately on an introduction to a song or piece when constructing music

It's a midi keyboard (axiom 49) that probably controls a software synth or sampler. I remember reading that they sample into Kontakt and then use that live.

The first song is great. Like one of the most epic 80's songs ever written (too short- they short-changed themselves on the potential of the song by cutting it short), but just showing up in the 21st century. If they let the idea of this song reach full maturity, no joke, it would be incredible. Guys, if you're reading this, lengthen the song and let your idea grow. Amazing.
