I’ve been using this for at my off grid cabin to charge my 30kW eg4 battery bank for 6 months now. It works perfectly.

I bought one too. I'll have to have a longer cord from charger to the generator though, can't get mine that close. Good video! 💯

Dumb question I'm sure but can I wire this directly to a battery (EG4 Lifepower4) to charge it up so that I can add it to the bank in 100% SOC like the others. (No inverter) tux do much... great video as always! 👍
@GavinStoneDIY
@GavinStoneDIY 6 ай бұрын
Yeah you can use this as your charger for sure. You can even hook it up to the rest of the bank as long as the breakers are off to the other batteries. Then when everything is at 100% switch the others on.

WARNING. Received mine DEAD ON ARRIVAL. Now they want me to only give me STORE CREDIT and some lame excuse that it is NOT COMPATIBLE WITH A 48V LFP RACK MOUNT BATTERY. AND THEY WANT A RESTOCKING FEE?!?! I just want a working unit. What a lame excuse they gave. NOT happy with Signature Solar and probably will not buy from them again.

It looks like you connected the Chargeverter output to the battery bus bar on your Master EG4 Inverter. Doesn't that mean that the generator output from your "dirty" generator will still flow into the inverters? As the inverters will be drawing power from the batteries to power your house, how does that effect the charging rate of your battery? Would you increase the amp or volt setting on the Chargeverter to compensate for power your Inverter is drawing from the batteries? Normally you would be charging your batteries from grid power and/or solar power fed thru your inverter. Do you need to disconnect the Chargeverter from the system when you aren't using the generator?
@GavinStoneDIY
@GavinStoneDIY 3 ай бұрын
The chargeveter is the one that takes in the power from the generator and converts it to DC. So you could almost look at it like a filter. There isn’t any dirty power issue that way. You don’t have to disconnect the chargeveter when you aren’t using it. Everything can stay as is. If you are using battery when the chargeveter is charging it would technically be using DC power straight from the chargeveter.

@@GavinStoneDIY Thank you for your quick responses to the dumb questions I have asked on this and other videos you have produced. I am trying to design a Backup System using an EG4 6000XP inverter and two EG4 PowerPro batteries. I can't afford to add solar at present, so I plan to use a small 5KW 240volt 30amp generator I already have to charge the batteries thru the EG4 Chargeverter when the grid goes down. I plan to use a Reliance 10 circuit 50amp Transfer switch as a "critical load" panel so I can select specific loads to power with the inverter when the grid gows down. I would appreciate any thoughts you have on my proposed system. Thanks so much for all of the great videos you have provided.

I got one myself and its a good charger so far. I would suggest you open up charger and make sure all connections are tight. I was told SS would not have a cable adapter for 110 use, they even went as for as not offering me a cable schematic as it would be a liability to publish. How do you like your new cableway?
@GavinStoneDIY
@GavinStoneDIY Жыл бұрын
That’s a shame. They had said before they are working on an adapter. Then again, It depends on who you ask maybe. The wireway is awesome. Everything is so clean. Plus it’s a nice place to set tools. 😉

Good to know you can charge with it at the same time as the inverter charge controller. I have the old 18 amp charger, will it also do this?
@GavinStoneDIY
@GavinStoneDIY Жыл бұрын
Yes sir. DC power is funny like that. You can have multiple charging sources on the same bus bar. It’s like having 2 charge controllers. Same thing. The 18 amp would just take ages to charge. 5 hours for 1 rack battery.

@GavinStoneDIY

Yes it can. Most inverter come with charging capability though. So then use case for a grid charge with this would probably be uncommon.

How long would it take to charge a 6 battery server rack from 20% SOC to 100% SOC with this unit ?
@GavinStoneDIY
@GavinStoneDIY 8 ай бұрын
It’s hard to say exact numbers. But probably around 4 hours. It would be better to say 5 hours in case you wanted to drop the amperage down a bit.

@@GavinStoneDIY Thank you. Man you sure are quick with your responses and I appreciate that. I guess it would depend on the Generator also. I'd probably set it so my generator is at about 80% of capacity right ?

@@sjbill1793 yeah I’d prefer to keep things at 80%. Everything runs a little cooler that way.

Does this thing actually need 240v to recieve maximium rating or simply dual 120v lines? The latter makes more sense since it has 2 seperate internal modules.
@GavinStoneDIY
@GavinStoneDIY 6 ай бұрын
In other words can you somehow divide the 120v between 2 inputs and achieve the full charge capability? I don’t believe so no.

Can you top balance a 48v pack with it?
@GavinStoneDIY
@GavinStoneDIY Жыл бұрын
I’m assuming you’re referring to a diy pack? You can get it within range of top balance. But in order to fully top balance them the cells need to be in parallel and charged fully with a bench power supply.
