I do that too, but break the shells first. It takes a very, very long time for the shells to break down.

Now if your egg floats, and you can feel the contents sloshing around inside, even the color is off on white eggs, it's likely rotten.

I would use the bad eggs in the garden. When transplanting into the garden put an egg in the hole as fertilizer.

I don't know, but I can't imagine why it wouldn't work. I'd do as I did in this video and check eggs at different stages and see what happens.
