Did you attend the workshop with Petrucci's tech Maddi? Was wondering what he had to say about setups and adjusting the truss rod/adjusting the action, etc.? Great interview vids with Rusty & Andy btw

Rusty is a technical wizard, truly gifted. I wish I had his ability. The guitar is a unique instrument, in that so many rock guitarists are caught up in non-melodic, linear playing of scales and arpeggio patterns. You really don't hear this from horn players or piano players, but those instrumentalists are not the engine of aggressive rock music. The guitar, bass and drums are. Of course, a big part of intense rock music is fast, aggressive "rip-your-head-off" playing. This is a great interview. Rusty Cooley has set new precedents in guitar technique. To all guitarists, don't forget the melody. The guitar can be used as a machine, or a "machine-gun", but if this is music, where is the melody? I guess melody starts to go 'out-the-window' for many guitarists when they have so much technical ability. This is not so much a criticism, but more an observation. Kudos to you, Jaroslaw. And thanks to Rusty for inspiring us guitarists who like shred guitar. Rusty is a good teacher, as well as a very gifted guitarist.

I agree, I wish we heard some more complex sax lines being ripped at those crazy speeds rusty plays at, instead of linear scale and arpeggio playing.

“Sitting with John petrucci after a dream theater show, just trading licks” I would pay probably 10, maybe even 15 dollars to watch that. No one recording, no personal for the camera, just them shredding.

The technique of squeezing the arm is also done by me 8:00, it consists of tensing the arm as if you were taking muscle but without closing the fist of the hand obviously, I develop that technique without wanting too, that happens when you want to take the leap of playing fast to play super fast

SITH GIRL -do u play guitar or have your own music? I would love to hear your music!
@jaranarm6 жыл бұрын
SITH GIRL I agree. I personally don't find Rusty's music on the level of other guitarists as Shawn Lane, Buckethead, Guthrie Govan, Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal, Mattias IA Eklundh, etc. in terms of using both technical capability and musical phrasing in interesting innovative ways. I admire Rusty more as a player who has lots of passion for the instrument. Great guy too.
