I only own and shoot pistols that I carry, so I have to clean after each range session. My regular cleaning routine is pretty mild: bore snake, wipe rails/slide/barrel clean, and then lubricate. I’m slowly getting rid of pistols that have firing pins that are difficult to remove.

I clean every time. One shot or a thousand fired. I don’t scrub like a maniac, but the gun is clean and oiled after being fired. Been doing it like that for 30 years and my guns still look new. No reason to change.

i was stationed in the desert for three years. all we did after 12 hours on the gate was take a dry cloth and wipe off the sand then put in a couple drops of oil.

I've used various solvents at the same cleaning session. But I always make sure I use Ballistol(mineral spirits) or one CLP(usually G96) to hit everything to diligently get them off before oiling. Particularly when I use different solvents together. Sometimes I'll just use the Ballistol as the lubricant. Excess is always taken off ! I avoid copper solvents and others that can be caustic. Only if there is a noticeable fall off in accuracy will I use a copper solvent. Any strong chemicals get taken off the firearm. If you don't have air pressure to clean out particles and excess fluid in a trigger assembly ,squirting lighter fluid in the trigger group will work. But in that situation I only use the lighter fluid and don't mix with other solvents.This video offered very sound and practical advice !!!

I use a mix of Red N' Tacky and G96 in a needle bottle. Works great on the slide rails, and on my Mcarbo stainless steel guide rod.

It is good to here someone say to not use bore solvent on the rest of the pistol/revolver/long rifle/shotgun. Bore solvent is made for cleaning out the bore. I have had really good luck using the TW25B to lubricate all parts of my pistols. Another nice video, Ernest.

Your videos are great and always very informative. Do you think you could do another one to illustrate correct application of the TW25B synthetic grease on the internal components of a 92? I've always used Hoppe's for the bore and random gun oil for everything else. I purchased both the Lucas Extreme Gun Oil and a tube of TW25B, but I want to avoid overkill with the grease. I appreciate you sharing your expertise, thank you!

This is good. Info as always. I had a “bio” based lube turn into rusty glue for lack of a better description. Slip 2000. I will never trust a bio based lube ever again.

I’m going to make a personal plea to Mr. Ernest Langdon via KZbin. This year, I bought a Beretta 92X in the G configuration. There are a bunch of Decocker-only installation vids on KZbin, but zero videos about breaking down a G model. Mr. Langdon, sir, I would be ecstatic if you did a video on how to take down the slide components on a G model Beretta 92. I got as far as removing the extractor, but I chickened out on going any further. Even a vid just showing how to remove the decocker and firing pin would be great. I am terrified a piece will shoot out that I’m not ready for.

I like to lube the trigger, trigger pin, trigger bar, trigger bar spring, hammer, hammer pin, sear pin, and rails. I do, however, prefer to have my hammer and sear engagement bone dry. I usually clean and dry the hammer and sear where they engage each other and hit those ledges with a stone just to make sure they are as dry as possible. I've found, after some experimentation, that I get a very well defined wall with this procedure and it gives me the cleanest break.

I lubricate that area as well. Normally with TW25b. It is still metal on metal contact and subject to faster wear if left unlubricated. Plus, if the trigger is not safe and crisp when lubricated, it is not much of a service weapon. Oil can and will get everywhere when you start shooting the gun.

@@LangdonTactical I have a 92 Elite LTT and a while back I decided to disassemble the gun to clean it and wiped all of the grease out of it. In one of your recent videos you mentioned tw25b grease and I realized that must have been what I wiped out when cleaning and must be why my trigger pull is not as nice. I purchased a tube of tw25b and was curious where to apply it. Any help would be appreciated.

Exactly, I always use a blow gun and compressed air. it cuts cleaning time by 90%. Invest in a cheap air compressor guys.

One question:Magazine cleaning. I recently purchased a "92" type pistol. I have new factory mags that I carry and that is all I use them for. I also bought some surplus CheckMate mags for range use. These are the steel base pad type and, when I got them, there was some surface rust. After a night in PB Blaster, I cleaned and oiled these mags. Since I’m not in the sandbox, these will be fine for dropping on cement or on the dirt range. Normal use though: What say you about normal mag cleaning?

It would be good to note that if you're doing any sort of long term storage, a grease or wax is better than oil.

Langdon, will a super degreaser damage the inner bore or the outside of the gun? Will mineral spirits remove copper fouling out or loosen them?

I don't know what you mean by a "super degreaser". There is nothing wrong with using a bore solvent to clean the barrel, it is just not necessary every time you clean a handgun.

Not very often, maybe every 10 to 15K. It really depends on what the gun was exposed to. Rain or dust storms can sometimes make me do a detailed cleaning sooner than would otherwise be needed.

I have shot one a little, couple magazines, but I do not have one to do a full review. I have used Beretta 92s with frame safeties before, but not a ton. I just prefer DA guns.

I use sig spec 1 on the rails very sparingly, sometimes the ejector does not close fully and the shell don't eject, it did do this with regular gun oil, so I did not think it was the spec 1 slightly thicker viscosity. When I use gun oil I paint it on with a q tip. I quit using gun oil because it tends to leak or oze out of the gun while spec 1 does not. The first time the ejector failed I found a piece of what looked like brass casing welded in the ejector slot, I was able to pick it out using a dentist tool. Do you have any idea what the problem is? It occurs once at every range visit.

I have no idea, not common at all. Poorly made ammo is my first thought, i.e. weak brass. I have seen brass get under and around the ejector, but very seldom enought to cause an issue.

I feel better if i over clean my beretta M9 also the firing pin and the ejector and trigger because i do not know when i well be able to get out to firing range so i use Amsoil cleaner an lubricant but when it comes to the firing pin an firing pin channel i well take out as much oil as i can - thoughts would be appreciated

I have a semi-auto handgun for home defense in my nightstand ,I am getting a bit older so don't go to range hardly ever anymore , the gun was cleaned and lightly lubed before putting in nightstand , it has not been fired in more than a year , is it ok to store that long or longer without using or firing or re lubing ?

Shooting the gun is not as important as cleaning it. Dust and lint can get into the wrong place and cause issues. I would at the very least clean it every few months and relubricate it before you put it back in service. A gun that you carry should be cleaned much more often. But if it is just sitting there, this should be enough.

Most of my guns have either a stainless barrel or a chrome-lined barrel. There is a light amount of oil on the very end of the bore snake that I use, so other than that very light coating, I do not "lube" the bore.

Typical us made bore solvents that also are CLP are weak, if you want to remove copper and lead in the barrel use Ammonium based solvents like Robla Solo Mil, it only does one job and it does it highly efficient, also its not expensive and the small bottle will last you for a decade. For anything else you can use the cheapest cleaning agent that you can get your hands on, for me Ballistol Universalöl works fine to remove carbon anywhere and it is not aggressive to my skin or any finishes. You do not need to buy high priced tactical gun oil products that do everything with one go, that is not rocket science there hasnt been any noticeable improvement for its use case in decades, just variations of stuff we already have for more money. Also yes Moms soapy dishwasher solution will clean and degrease parts just fine, its basically for free.
