Also to note Heathrow operate a runway system that 1 runway is used for departures and another one is used for arrivals. If they are on 09 operations the will use 09L for arrivals all day and 09R for departures all day due to an agreement with the local community. If they're are on 27 operations, they will switch runways at 15:00 for example if they are using 27L for departures they will use 27R for arrivals till 15:00 then switch operations at 15:00 where 27R will be used for departures and 27L for arrivals.

Thank you, that is great to know. Was this agreed with the community so that one area didn't constantly have landing aircraft going overhead all day long?

@smokie01uk Yeah the agreement is called the Cranford agreement and I have heard recently it is being reviewed again Here's a link to the wiki page for the agreement en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cranford_Agreement

In Europe you can't give planes takeoff or landing clearance while anyone else is on the runway or approaching in-front of them. So if you clear a plane for takeoff 09R, you have to wait until it is airborne before you clear the next plane on approach to land. That is something that is very different to the US. :) Cheers from another aviation enthusiast

Great job ..just a few things...normally Heathrow operate one runway for arrivals and one for departures ..on the 09s this is 09L arrivals ..09R departures ,i noticed you cleared a flight for take off while the arrival was still on the runway......,when handing flights off this is done once the flight is airborne ,i know some airports this is done similar to how you did it but Heathrow the controllers do this once airbourne ...ive just brought this sim and having a great time with it although not got any add on airports yet ..keep up the great work from an ex real world ATCO

Thanks so much for your kind comment. I'm really enjoying this sim too. I recently downloaded the EDDF add on and had a session yesterday. I had to turn traffic density down to 80% though as it was getting hectic. Can I ask, what would be a realistic gap between departing planes? I'm think due to the turbulence as the plane takes off, a gap is needed to allow the air to settle down?

@smokie01uk generally depends on the departures SID and aircraft type..so a minute to two minutes ..3.. I believe if your following an A380 (A380s where not about when I was an ATCO)..you would also need to increase the separation if you had an A320 following say a ATR 72 if on the same SID ,I don't think the sim supports SIDs ..Heathrow operate slightly different in that once a flight is airborne you can clear another for take off (depending in routeing)..I believe its called visual separation nowadays
