Broad reaching and gooswinging always provides a rocky roly ride and is usually not too fast but means a relatively flat ride. Deciding whether to pole out a large genoa means weighing up the fact that with a larger genoa, to keep it poled out, hence maximum usage that the pole will probably foul the shrouds so the headsail would need to be furled a little but then there is a likelyhood of less power so just keeping an eye on it as best. Of course if the Mainsail is the main driving force then depowering the headsail is ok but on my boat, the Genoa is the power sail. Lessons learnt Aleks.
