In this video we take a look at the EGO 56V 16" Chainsaw with the 5.0ah Battery. This thing is a beast! I am very impressed with it as my all around chainsaw. I have lots of pines and a few hardwoods and it is capable of everything on my property! I was hoping if nothing else this saw would be a great saw for limbing and trimming. In the end, I was surprised at the power and still had at least 25% battery remaining. About first 10 minutes of the video is review and the last 13 minutes is the full footage of the pine tree I cut up that fell during our last storm if you are interested. Happy clearing and as always be careful!

I have the 18” EGO saw. I wanted another battery and bought a 16” saw/battery/charger for just a bit more than the price of a batter. So, now I have 2 saws... Keeping my Stihl gas saw though...

*push the primer 6 times and let it rip I like the saw for the price👀 **allabout.wiki/9XTAGY** used maybe 10 tanks of fuel, 6 loads of hard wood and am very pleased with it. some will say its under powered for a 20" but I like it better then a 18". I have a 18" also which is great also just like the extra 2" inches. the saw is very light also which is nice. Huskavarna owns EGO Power so I am sure it will last. its not a sthl but still love it! I have seen some bad reviews on the saw but do not agree with them. some people told me not to waste my money but have since changed there mind. just have some common sense and cut some wood!*

The action camera was turned away from me so it did not pick up my comment very well about how quiet the saw is. It is amazing to have this much power in a saw that quiet .Just another reason to not pick up my gas saw again....

I have this chainsaw and one issue I think it has is the chain olier does not seem to work. The oil tank doesn’t seem to need filling much and sometime the chain starts smoking. Next time I will check the oiling before cutting. I’ve also heard these chainsaws do have oiling problems and a fix is to put your mouth around the oil filler when it’s open and blow into it, putting pressure on the system and popping the oil out so it starts flowing.

Nice review! I love mine, and it was a no-brainer to get the 5.0 Ah battery. I like to use vegetable oil in mine since it's cheap and environmentally friendly. You can get bar oil that's biodegradable if vegetable oil sounds crazy, but for me the vegetable oil works well.

got mine about same time as you. small stuff in the yard, I had grown tired of my stihl .... too much saw and used too infrequently. got to where I couldn't ever start it .... dug into it and found it had a cracked fuel line (inside of tank). Well known issue with stihl's that sit too long. Ended up using mine, and then happened to need it while at my father's place. He had a limb fall in a storm, on top of a outbuilding. Honest 12 inches diameter at large end .... little saw wanted to EAT. Limb was hardwood (oak). Everytime I go out to putter in yard I always smile when my tool starts right up, no gas, no pull start, etc. BTW, mine was on sale, 14 inch saw, 2ah battery, and was 179 IIRC. I have other EGO products in my collection so the small battery is actually what I prefer as it does make for a VERY light setup. I have 2x2.5 AH, and a 5 AH. I bought a mower last month, so I also have a 7.5. This came with the upgraded charger, so that is almost a proxy for having a fuel meter, tho not really :) Now that I've seen they can have problems, it's going to make my yard work harder to accomplish, as I'll always be working with my fingers crossed!!!

This is funny... I have been working with another TTS video to fix the broken motor controller on an old Ego blower. And I just bought this exact Ego 16" chainsaw last week to take up to the farm to clear some junk trees. Like you I have always wanted one of these and went through the same calculus for buying with the battery. I have a blower with a 2.0 battery and a snowblower with 2 5.0 batteries so I could have bought the bare tool. But the price difference was too small to pass up getting the another 5.0 battery. I agree that the saw works great... my only real complaint so far is that the oil level is extremely difficult to see in the window. So I look around to see a review of this saw to see if anyone has suggestions as to the oil visibility issue and hear a familiar voice and see the Hakko solder station on the bench. LOL.

I'm debating between the 16" and 18" chain saw. Just $50 more for the 18". As I understand it the 18" can go nearly twice as fast. Not sure if this good or bad. Wondering if they are both the same motor? If so, maybe a slower rpm would help the saw last longer or be easier on it. Both I would get with 5ah battery. Any thoughts on either or reliability? I think the 18" is variable speed, not sure about the 16". June, 2020 oh ...long time ago I was told by a chainsaw dealer that they put too long bars on, shorter was better for not bogging down saw I guess.?
@ThriftyToolShed
@ThriftyToolShed 4 жыл бұрын
All good questions. In am not sure about the 18" myself, I have not had one yet. I have the 14 and 16" and they work great and you are correct mine are not variable speed. I don't know if that is really needed in a chainsaw? The variable speed would make the controller cost more and also have more power components? I am not sure if motor is different yet!
@jon_byler
@jon_byler Жыл бұрын
the 14 and the old 16 have the same motor, and share many (if not all) parts. The 18 has a bigger motor, and is supposed to be more powerful. I'm trying to figure out watt ratings on all of the motors, but having trouble finding the information.

regarding the bundled battery with the chainsaw, i suggest you look at the manufacturing date of the battery. I typically believe these bundles exist because the battery is quite old and charge cycles are shortened over it's lifespan. My greenworks weed eater was a bundle package and I noticed the manufactured date was almost 4 years old. I called greenworks and they replaced the battery. I think i had to pay shipping, but I did keep the old battery. I noticed when that old battery, dropped down 2 bars it would go flat on my chainsaw when cutting.

No worries, All my Ego products had new battery with same month/year and even the last part of the serial numbers match on Ego sets! Sounds like you got a refurb?
@cameranmanner4701
@cameranmanner4701 4 жыл бұрын
@@ThriftyToolShed I never thought about it being refurb as they still honored the 3 year warranty and there was no mention of Refurbished or previously owned on the website.. I do remember peeling off those stupid plastic sheets over the control LEDs. All the screws and parts were still in a sealed bag. So for me it was still a brand new item. May have sat in the warehouse for a few years before selling? My only issue with all these battery powered tools. Only few companies use interchangeable batteries. But when it comes to lawn tools NONE I know of can swap different brand name batteries. Sadly this is a secondary source of income for all these companies on the backs of their "Loyal" customers. It becomes difficult for customers to take chances on a up and coming company with lawn tools as you don't know how long they will last or the old legacy companies unwilling to come up with something innovative, as they have their customers locked into a system of mower, weed whacker, chainsaw, etc..

Storing the battery fully charged makes a big dent in its service life. The battery that came with my EGO chainsaw was made June 2014 and still holds a good charge as I store lithium ion batteries and cells at half charge.

In the manual for the pack, EGO has mentions the packs have a feature to self discharge after a month of storage. If I remember correctly anyway... I am not sure of any other pack that does that, seems pretty unique.
@JeffEikenberry
@JeffEikenberry 4 жыл бұрын
EGO batteries do in fact, automatically self-discharge to an optimal storage capacity of 30% if not used after a month. This is an awesome feature, particularly for those of us who have winter weather and don't use our landscaping tools for months at a time. Just put them in the house / basement to keep them at room temp, and they are good to go!

Well I have not actually depleted it down to empty yet. I will use the 5.0ah for several jobs and it's still above 25% or so. I put it in my fast charger and it takes about 25 minutes. I believe it is roughly twice as long for the standard charger.
