Ego CSX5000 20" commercial chainsaw - will the right battery keep it from overheating?

The 10ah battery is supposed to be able to handle more current than the 8 or the 12. The saw doesn't overheat, but the batteries keep getting too hot.

Any chance you could get your hands on the new Milwaukee dual battery chainsaw with the forge batteries? Supposedly ment to be the most powerful to date. If you contact your local Milwaukee rep they’re pretty good for getting a free demo to try out. I’d love to see you put it through your torture test and see if the batteries are able to stand up better than your ego test.

@CA34562 I pre-ordered one along with a set of 12ah forge batteries. I like the sound of free though!

I'm running into a similar issue with my 16 inch Ego chainsaw especially on the lower amp batteries. Silly idea - Strap an ice pack to the batteries while in use to see if it changes anything?

Thank you for this video. I wish I saw it -before- I just bought the csx5000. You mentioned a different style battery coming out, and you think they're coming out with different chainsaws as well? Thank you!

@coperich I don't have any insider knowledge, it just seems like anyone who doesn't start using the "pouch" batteries will be behind.

Thanks for this test. I always use the 5ah battery to cut dry chestnut and oak. The battery overheats if you press too hard on the saw. Otherwise it works even at reduced power.

@jean-marcbriane7283 I haven't tried the 20m/s, but I still overheated at 25m/s

honestly I feel in real world scenarios you'll have a tough time overheating one. ive got the 16 inch ego right now and i have bucked a lot of fire wood this season already and bucking constantly the battery will overheat on the last bar and i just swap it out. I did order the cxs 5000 a couple weeks ago just waiting for that to come in im excited looks like it will cut fast! (sold my 500i i was so impressed with the ease of the ego saws already)

@yensive826 I compared it with the CS2000 and I honestly think that I would rather use that saw until Ego comes out with a better battery. When the pouch batteries eventually come out, I think the CSX5000 will be excellent. Until then, you can't really use the full potential of the saw.

You are 100% incorrect! I tried using my CSX5000 to buck up a 22" choke cherry tree. The saw barely made 6 cuts before overheating the battery. Switching batteries didn't help. I made a cut and a half; and then the saw itself overheated! I was able to finish the trunk with my CS2005. That being said; I WILL agree with you regarding the smaller EGO saws. I have a couple of CS1800s; and they just keep cutting until the battery is exhausted. Sorry about your new saw...

...so when do we see the 36" bar on the CSX5000 and the 82CS34?

@John-cj3ve 😂 I don't think we will... the 24 seems pretty close to the limit of what is advantageous. I might try a 28 with a skip tooth, but definitely waiting for Ego to come up with a better battery before taking it further.

@reusefull I suppose you're right. I DO find myself having to be 'careful' when cutting through logs over 20" with the 24" bar. What I mean by that is if you ARE careful; you COULD run a 36" bar on the 5000; but it would be more of a stunt; than actually usable in the field.

@John-cj3ve looking forward to the 2 new saws that should be coming out pretty soon.

I have visions of my first Greenworks 82v saw😁 I don't know why; but I expect that the Greenworks will be more powerful than the Milwaukee.

I’d like to get my hands on the Csx5000 but i have a cs1800, ego’s 18” chainsaw, already. Would you happen to know if i could swap a 14” bar and chain on the 18” so i dont have 2 saws that close in length?

Sorry, I don't know if the bars are interchangeable.

I put a 18in bar on an 14 in ego, interchanged fine, so you should be able to swap the other way also.

Thanks for undertaking the time and expense of this test. I really appreciate it. What kind of wood was that you were flying through?

@@John-cj3ve it's oak, but half of the log is pretty soft.
