Just bought one. You're right on all performance points....except mine is not a year old. But I ditched a nearly new Stihl gas-powered trimmer, because loading or advancing trim line was an absolute horror show. That was $140 down the tubes. I gave it to my nextdoor neighbor. The Ego was $189, and it works like a dream. After weeks of watching trimmer videos, the Ego came out on top. Now, having used it a few times, I'm convinced I bought the very best product. Incidentally, your video is very good. Especially the edging demo.

I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use kzbin.infoUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.

I just picked one up this past week and it has been great so far. I have 1.25 acres and it trimmed the full yard in a single charge. I have a couple of wooded areas with dense underbrush but it had plenty of power to trim the very thick weeds that try to come from the woods into the yard. Best part - never having to start a 2-cycle motor ever again!

I recently purchased the EGO hedge trimmer (24”) after owning a Black and Decker hedge hog corded and an older stihl gas power version. I’m blown away at how much work you can do with these things. No worries about cutting an extension cord and they are designed to work while slightly wet. I ran mine today for about an hour and the charger indicates the battery is still good to go! I’m going for the snow blower next!

I just used mine for the first time yesterday. The edger attachment worked like a charm. The weed whacker worked great in the horizontal position, but when I rotated it to edge my garden beds, I found it awkward. The perfect solution would be either a circular handle, or a quick-rotating handle. EGO, take note! Update: I merely rotated the handle one quarter turn, and the problem is solved.

I’ve had my ego repaired once. The motor was replaced under warranty and then it quit again after one use. There is a design flaw in the first generation. They PULL taller grass in. The cooling fan catches the tall grass- or worse - vines and cause them to wrap inside the motor shaft. Happens way too quickly to notice until too late. That ruins the motor

Pretty much how my EGO trimmer performs: a bit heavy but I've never used a gas trimmer to compare. My model is the 1 with the carbon-fiber shaft. After about 1 season, I had to refill the string; the easy-spool loading didn't work as promised though. After several tries to get the new line loaded and failing to get it to load, I decided to return it to Home Depot. Unfortunately, Home Depot noticed the purchase date was over their 6 months return limit; they would only give me store-credit. I didn't want to mess with EGO repairing it under warranty, so I took the credit and then discovered that Home Depot no longer sells EGO products. Since I also have a leaf-blower that uses the same battery, I had to buy the new trimmer at Ace Hardware. So I'm disappointed in HD. But all in all, I like the trimmer and the blower with the lithium battery that powers both. I'm hoping that when I have to replace the line, I don't have a problem.

Hi...have the EGO mower and love it. Am toying with getting the weed whacker. Currently have a B&D Grass hog electric. My question is how easy is the EGO weed whacker to change the string? B&D is very easy.
@53C524 жыл бұрын
Joan Baird Just replaced a B&D GH1000 with an EGO ST1520S yesterday. Love the freedom from the cord, but on first use I prefer the feel of the B&D to the EGO. Might be just a matter of getting used to the straight shaft after 13 yrs using the B&D, also miss the GH’s automatic line feed right away. I found it a little harder to gauge the cutting plane when holding it upside down for edging compared to the GH, and it’s not as comfortable to hold in that position as the GH where the shaft rotates to keep the grip position the same. Again, that may become more comfortable in time after getting used to the different feel. Had an EGO mower, blower, and hedge trimmer for a while and LOVED all of those on first use compared to what each replaced. I like the trimmer, but don’t love it yet. Since I’ve only used it once, can’t testify to the ease of line replacement, but the ST1520/ST1520S has the powerload feature. Cut 13ft of line, push it through the head so that half is sticking out either end, hold down a button at the end of the shaft and it winds itself. There’s a rapid load version that is similar in that you push a length of string through the head, then twist the head manually until it’s wound. Both should be easier than the GH.
@Cottage_Garden_Serenity4 жыл бұрын
@@53C52 Just looked at the Ego trimmer at Home Depot. It appears to not have the metal piece that helps to line up the edges of the sidewalk. (B&D does) Also not clear how you flip it over like the B&D. I'm still on the fence but appreciated your comments!

Do you think the carbon version worth the upcharge?
@craigstreit52835 жыл бұрын
Wait for a sale. I just bought my carbon fiber one for 199. Same price as the aluminum one for the holiday sale

How long does a full charge go on these ?????
@johnturowski21734 жыл бұрын
Mine lasts a full two hours before it conks out, more than enough for our house. I typically run the trimmer at about half speed 90% of the time, which extends runtime quite a bit. No need to go full blast unless I hit a tall or rough patch.

I just bought one of these and I can’t get the hang of it. I’ve been a gas guy forever and for whatever reason my edging looks like crap with my ego.
@jettlash10003 жыл бұрын
Hang in there. My edging with this was terrible at first too (not that I'm a pro by any means). The biggest difficulty for me was that there is so much more weight at the head (by the string) because of the electric motor being there. It threw my balance off for awhile, but now it's not an issue for me.

why am i watching this review if its still on the orignal string after freaking year.. hasnt been used enough to even tell......

I don't believe they make this exact model, EGO is notorious for updating/refreshing models over time.

does a shoulder harness come with it ? if not that's a draw back

Mine works good and has plenty of power. But I'm very tall, 6'5" so I get a backache. It's new, so maybe I'll figure that part out. But l love not messing with gas plus the quiet.

I just purchased one recently and love it. However, having a hard time getting the release tabs to release and take off the head? I’ve been struggling and can’t get it. 😂

Try standing up straight and walking backwards. It’s much easier on the back...and faster
