The saddest part about Risk of Rains lore is that Mithrix would never get closure. He spent a very long time locked up on the moon, angry for what his brother had done. He spend so long trying to reach him, but he would never know that his brother was dead all along

Yeah it becomes more tragic if you truly demolish him, where he can't do anything to you. He calls out to his brother for help, in my case he called for him three times. A fleeting plea.. too bad I fucked up and head stomped into the lifts that take you up to him.. soft locked In there and got locked away with the planet

Holy shit, this is really good. The faded Once In A Lullaby in the latter half, the way the camera pans down through the bridge of the Contact Light to reveal Providence's corpse, the voice, the imagery as a whole... And the part that hurts the most is seeing that frame of Mithrix chiseling a statue of his brother.

Tbh most survivors in ror1 wasn't there to kill Providence or to take revenge they were just there after Providence crashed their ship trying to survive. So in a way Providence got karma'd.

Perhaps Providence was defeated because he lacked the unbound power of cold, precise design. Perhaps Mithrix was defeated because he was driven mad (and weakened) from a lack of soul & love after being alone for so long. Ironically, in their time of need, both brothers needed the other.

The story of Mythrix and Providence is honestly so amazing for being hidden behind item descriptions. I love how there's a story to piece together. I read the one about how Mythrix got trapped as my last one, and seeing him being so happy because he could finally free his brother and him, while Providence is sad because he knows what's really going to happen, it's just *immaculate*

And "who" is selfish is still out to debate, if you ask me. Mithrix had idea, design, creativity, he was a higher being along with his brother, and didn't really care about humans. But Providence loved those "ants", "feeble pathetic creatures" so much, he valued them over his brother life. Selfish desire, too.

@@kovacaizek4691 i like how mithrix isn't the objectively bad one, they're both flawed people. mithrix not having any compassion for lesser beings (with debatably strong reasoning) and providence setting everything aside (and thus losing everything) for his love of soul, not even the beings he saves providence seems like the objectively good one, the one who saves the beings weaker than him, but in reality he doesn't give a shit, he just loves soul mithrix seems like the terrible one, he doesnt care for anything below him, but he always looked out for his brother, he cared for him more than providence ever cared for the things he saved

If mithrix was the evil person that providence thought he was (personally I think mithrix is too caught up in his own abilities) then I’d imagine something that he’d say to providence in the afterlife is: “I guess you always did love worms” insulting providence’s choices on a more personal level. And another thing in a way the lore implies there is no afterlife [it disturbs providence to think that soul could be permanently erased, if there’s an afterlife then it’s not erased, and a being as attuned to soul as providence would probably be able to ‘feel’ if there was a place where souls go when they die, the fact that he thinks it’s permanently gone sorta implies there’s no afterlife]

An unknown entity of similar power to Mithrix and Providence, who, unlike Mithrix and Providence, could freely travel through space. I personally theorize it to be N'kuhana, but that's completely unconfirmed. Sorry that there isn't much more lore to her than that, despite being mentioned by Mithrix fairly frequently in the item logs.
