2016 wasn't rubbish. It was a decent movie. People hated it because it wasn't 'their' ghostbusters. Afterlife stars 'their' ghostbusters even if they showed up at the very end.

Jason Reitmen said the first person to read the script was his father, and the second was Ramis' wife. She and her kids were involved at pretty much every step. Harold's daughter Violet (who had grown up on the set of the first film with Jason) was there when they pulled Harold's proton pack out of storage and tried it on herself. They even consulted on the design of the action figure.
