It is noticeable that George's poems inspired to Wellesz piano pieces, not lieder (as for instance Schoenberg's hanging gardens op. 15). Obviously here, Wellesz captured something of Debussy's atmosphere. We are fer from austro German expressionism.

This came up after I'd been listening to Wellesz' 4th quartet which is worthy of Bartok. This is worthy of Ravel Iin fact I thought it was, as I wasn't looking at the screen. Why is this wonderful composer not better known?
