The answer is in the 4th commandment. They had to be slaves under Farao to understand what that meant. Yes searching on your own for your survival. God said don´t go to Egypt come to me. But it`s all about learning that. I hope a have answered you question. First you have to experience darkeness so that you after that can come to the light, you can say.
