No country will benefit from war. The water is sufficient to the whole of Africa. Egypt must stop it’s selfish motifs of claiming the Nile water as it’s own and hindering other 10 countries’ interest to develop the resource. Egypt is investing to disturb the peace and stability of Ethiopia. The security council should instruct and hold a position to condemn Egypt interference in Ethiopian internal affairs.

So you see that Egypt is being selfish and Ethiopia is not ?? 😂😂😂 come on Ethiopia is the one who rejected all the agreements, Again Egypt is not rejecting the dam and that’s why It’s negotiating since many years ago, Egypt and Sudan are rejecting the idea of building this dam without any agreement to save their rights through coming years if you know the difference, Egyptians have never said that it’s only their water they know that all the countries share it and it’s their right to use it and that’s why exactly they are trying to have an agreement to this exact moment but also while any country is using it also it should take into consideration the other countries , Ethiopia is the one who claimed that it’s their water and want to build 100 dam on it with no regards to the other countries you are talking about so take care of what you are saying cuz I see that u misleading people 😊

War so that Egypt occupies Ethiopia forever or change the geographical fact that the Blue Nile rises in, and for most part flows in Ethiopia? Any war where Egypt just disrupts the GERD but fails to do both means very complicated problems for it in the long term. And the Egyptian army would likely face the same problems the Ethiopian Army faced in Tigray. The forbidding Ethiopian terrain of mountains, deep canyons, forests, swamps and numerous rivers with few bridges favors the tenacious defender. It also reduces the effectiveness of many of Egypt's relative military advantages suited for open desert war fare or set piece wars. Look no further than the NATO debacle in Afghanstan.

So let's use it together and wisely, work together on reforestation, so that we can get more rain and you can get more water. Let me ask one question, do you waste family meal, if you are the last person to eat your dinner? Can't you eat the food tomorrow? @@sarahaboelmakarim4081 Egypt is barking to stop the building of the dam and you don't have to be a rocket scientist to understand that on hydropower projects water only hits turbine and flows back to the river ( that makes me to ask is that worth my time to explain simple facts to you..) which doesn't pause any risk to the downstream countries and instead will prevent flooding. Even though Egypt has enough ground water that can last for generation, Ethiopia has been willing to agree on releasing of water during drought season even if we use a very small fraction of the Nile. Ethiopia has been trying to reach an agreement through African union but it seems like you are understimating the potential of the AU. @@adhamwasfi6822 The nature of Ethiopian topography is such most of the water they during the rain season quickly flows out in rivers and ends up in other countries. And unlike the great lakes region in East Africa which has two rain seasons in a year, Ethiopia for most part has one major rain season. That is why many areas of their country quickly experience drought conditions as soon as the rains stop, or when the pattern delays. Put simply, Ethiopia is like the roof of the house which gets all the rain but dries up quickly when the rains stop. If you have to grow anything on the roof you would do so during the rain season or else or find another way of keeping some of the rain water on the roof so that you are able to do so even when the rains have stopped. That is why many parts of Ethiopia which get a lot of rain quickly experience drought as soon as the rains stop hence the need for dams to store some of this rain water for both drinking and agriculture.

Yeah, let me break it to you pal, using water is something that has nothing to do with blocking water, all the world has witnessed civilization start at the banks of this Nile in Egypt because it is not only an Ethiopian Nile it is a Nile that has the same value for the 4 countries "Ethiopia, The Sudans and Egypt", selfishly deciding to take a stand and make an un necessary scene because you can't hold your country together and slove corruption issues there is not anyone else's fault. Power sources are now more developed than building a dam that will block life from 3 other nations, you can start a nuclear power station that will give you at least X10 power that the country can use much better than blocking the river. Answering your question, the Nile River is essential for Egypt and owned by Egypt as much as Ethiopia, and we will fight for it if needed.

Egypt can not eat humble pie simply because of their strategic position, the west can not afford for egypt to fall. Trust me. Egypt is not Iraq or Syria. However, this is outside the scope of this issue. Take it from me. All the Nile basin countries do cooperate together when it comes to water. For example Uganda and Sudan cooperate with egypt to have enough water for everyone. This is know thing. Ethiopia has a historical problem with Egypt for some unknown reasons. Ethiopia is begging for war but egypt is much smarter than that. This issue will end somehow. The west can not afford to cause problems for Egypt. Take this as a must and if you read history you will understand this point. Let’s hope the Oromo do not ask for independence soon and Ethiopia will be disintegrated into little countries and loads of tribesmen.

@michaelssentongo7189
@michaelssentongo7189 3 жыл бұрын
How long should the negotiations take if somebody is trying to convince you to cut off your hand? Probably a long time because that is not an easy thing to agree to. The problem is that most Egyptians don't know the details apart sloganeering. Egypt wants Ethiopia to agree to PRESERVE its water shares in the Nile which itself means the 1959 treaty between Egypt and Sudan in which the two countries gave themselves 100% of the rivers water that belongs to 11 countries. Both Sudan and Egypt wants Ethiopia to include guarantees of their supposed shares but don't want to examine what these shares are or even how they come about. Ethiopia was never part of this treaty. But including matters of water shares in the dam treaty means it accepts the 1959 Egyto-Sudan agreement and its shares in Blue Nile waters continue to be 0%. And GERD agreement if signed is likely to end up as the benchmark for all water project issues in the Nile valley. That is why the other 8 upstream countries support Ethiopia's position as well. Egypt and Sudan want Ethiopia to agree that it can only use the water in the GERD for only generating electricity and never for anything else. Egypt is also demanding that the GERD will be Aswan High Dam's reserve tank during droughts (droughts in Ethiopia !). Even if this means not being able to viably generate electricity its dam. Egypt also wants Ethiopia to agree that it cannot embark on any future projects on the Blue Nile without Egypt and Sudan's collective permission. Not consulting and coordinating with the two which is what international law says. But seek to obtain permission from them. And Egypt and Sudan who turned down invitation to be partners in the construction of the dam now want a controlling managerial role in the dam with even veto powers to boot. This is not made up stuff. Just tell us whether you think that if those demands were being made on either Egypt or Sudan or both that they would have agreed to them nine years ago.
@mohamedsultan4492
@mohamedsultan4492 3 жыл бұрын
@ Michael Ssentongo You are making the wrong assumption here. Egypt and Sudan has agreed to lower their water consumption by 20% until the dam is filled. The issue here is Ethiopia can not answer the pivot question. What will happen if there is a drought and long drought ? Ethiopia have taken the approach of “Let’s fill it and see” this is not accepted by egypt and Sudan. The other issue. Ethiopia has 9 other rivers they can make full use of, in fact egypt fears water shortage as it only has the Nile to relay on. Above all, Ethiopia historically do not like Egypt because of the 1959 agreement. This is why we are in a deadlock Let’s hope the Egyptian army do not go mad and bomb Ethiopia as they are very powerful, they are classified number 11 in the world.

It doesn't matter who Egyptians turn to as long as they are not members of Nile River basin the majority of which agree that the AU is the only right forum. Non-Nile basin entities can make resolutions and proclamation but the issue will only be settled among the members of the Nile basin who speak for themselves unlike the time when many were colonial hostages when the issues were determined in the past. A settlement regarding the GERD is likely to be the template for settlement of issues elsewhere in the Nile valley. But any resultant agreements can only be voluntarily by the other countries inside their own borders and with the understanding consent of their own people. Egyptians fail to understand that Ethiopian prime minister Abiy or the Ethiopian negotiators cannot agree and bind their won people, and indirectly other peoples in the Nile valley, to something the citizens view as unfair.

Ethiopia contributes 80% of the water apart from our fertile soil that has been taken away for thousands of years cherishing the Egyptian farmers while Ethiopian farmers sit, watch and starve. we contribute everything that we have (the water, the soil, the nutrients) and the colonial agreements restrict Ethiopia from taking a sip of the Nile water excluding Ethiopia from taking part in the agreement!!! How absurd is that???!!! "An unjust law is no low at all" We are requesting an equitable share of the Nile water. In fact, The GERD is blessing for both Egypt and Sudan in terms of Hydro Electric power and flood. We understand Egyptian concern but we Ethiopian's does not want to see Egyptians starve. Putting Ethiopia under pressure both from the inside and outside Is going to make things worse. Ethiopia has never been an enemy for Egypt and Sudan. However, Egypt and Sudan interest on Ethiopia is questionable currently and historically. Egypt tried to concur Ethiopia twice during the reign of Kedif Ismael in 18 century to control the Nile and was defeated twice. Ethiopia is known for uniting when it comes to its national interest. War and provocations will never be a solution. Reaching to a peaceful and equitable agreement should be given priority. We all are brothers and Humanity should overcome politics. We don't want our Egyptian brothers to starve. We don't also want half of Ethiopians to live in darkness and poverty amid abundant water resource. Our request is Fair!!!

@UC0jd7SGs6URdmgd2hHEKbzw 'International' river only when it comes to African things. Because African countries don't ever deserve to own anything. Where in the agreement of the Nile River was it agreed Ethiopia ever had a share despite the Nile originating in Ethiopia? Egypt was giving majority of share to the Nile by the British without including Ethiopia or Sudan in the contract because it was a colony and this has gone on for way too long. Europe is more civilised and countries see each other's as equals. But that isn't happening in Africa, countries where Africans are black are not given much respect and lose their natural resources to bullying 1st world countries in the conversation. Stop being racist. It has nothing to do with African mentality. This is superiority complex as an Arab that you are looking down on Africans.
