I've seen just about every doc on Afghanistan and Iraq (and syria) and this is right at the top. Really well done. These Latvian guys are great people. Hope they're all home and in good health.

Great documentary. It was refreshing to not have a stupid voice over from a journalist explaining everything. It leaves stuff up to the viewers imagination. Bravo to the Latvians for committing some sof guys and for going to the trouble of making one of the best Afghanistan documentaries I've seen. I give it 8.5/10. Two thumbs up.
@COYDOGSBAND8 жыл бұрын
Don't be confused with the camo on their gear....These aren't SOF. They are just a liaison team with some US Army unit doing patrols. I've met one of their SOF vets before when I dated a Latvian girl...She introduced me to her older brother who was in their Special Tasks Unit (their SF) vet. He wouldn't tell you much...lol....But yeah, same amount of OPSEC and ambiguity as the SAS or Delta would have. Not a bad doc though! Really neat to see both Americans and Latvians on patrol and covering each other in battle.

@@QuicheDude It seems that Dennis SR is right dude ! these particular Lats are badass but not SOF, they where part of a liaison and mentoring team inside 101st AB. And it makes sense, you don't put the faces of active SOF on camera, in any countries you don't even put the retired guys on cam because they are potential reserve, especially in tiny Latvia. (By the way, just between you and me, putting Quiche in front of dude is like saying stupid dude in French .. might want change that ? ... no pun intended just saying)

I want to give my most heartfelt salute to the men of the 101st ABD and to the Latvian Army for the work they were doing fighting terrorism. I served in the US. Army, CPT FA, from 88-98 and want to stay you are all my brothers and I am honored to be your brother. People that have never worn the uniform for their country, will never understand the truth about military service. The truth is we fought/fight for each other. I recently had the honor to speak with three Vietnam American Army Veterans. Each to the man embraced me and said even if I did not serve with them, that I was their brother too. So in honor of three great men that served their country, the men of 101st, the men of Latvian Military; we are all brothers, sisters, and family. Only those who served and wore the uniform understand the true meaning of these words Duty, Honor, Country. God Bless you all as well as Godspeed for a safe and speedy return to your families.

maybe because it's in another language with another people, the simple reason of a different code/language in my opinion is one of the main factor for this documentary be more true, also real because it's in a war zone but more true

Latvian troops have always been pretty bad ass for how under-equipped they used to be...Now look at them! They have some really nice gear now! Good...They're good people. I dated a Latvian girl a long time ago, she was super punk rock lol, but her brother was a veteran from their Army's Special Tasks Unit's support squadron or something cool like that if I remember correctly...He got hit in the cheek by shrapnel in some skirmish he never could tell me about. Latvians *are* truly bad asses. Reminds me of the Polish vets I've met...Just hard, hard motherf--kers.

Another example of what Latvian (not SOF) guys are capable of is Battle for Keating COP in 2009, which produced a constellation of medals: 27 Purple Hearts, 37 Army Commendation Medals with “V” devices for valor, three Bronze Stars, 18 Bronze Stars with “V” devices, and nine Silver Stars and 2 Medals of Honor. Latvian STG and CPL were fighting amongst 3-61 CAV guys against about 300 Taliban fighters (30 ANAs just ran away at the beginning, there was 9 US KIAs and 22 wounded unfortunately), for 13 hours of heavy contact. Basically the COP was overrun and 6 Americans and 2 Latvians had to retake it back. There's a few books written, documentaries and a film made - "Outpost" about that battle. mohmuseum.org/copkeating/
