forgive my ignorance but i cant hear any of these notes in the score played on the timpani.. whats going on here?

@@Erinnmnn haha, apologies. I mean it sounds to me like the timpani is just playing the same note and pitch, and not what is written

@@bringupthesun8986 Ahh, well in my experience the timpani are so overtone rich that the fundamental tone is barely distinguishable at times. Technically a "tuned instrument" but in practice they behave much more like bass drums.

@@Erinnmnn maybe I need to do some more attentive listening, with headphones. To be honest, moto perpetuo did make me laugh, without the score it just sounded like someone hitting a drum

I know exactly what you mean! Like OP mentioned, this is because the timpani are very overtone rich, your phone speakers often don't have enough bass to be able to project the fundamental well enough. If you wear headphones or use speakers with high bass, it should sound like it should! Hope that makes sense, cheers

This piece should sound good when played under a little stone bridge especially when goats clippity clop over the top
