This movie is an incredibly realistic depiction of social anxiety and anxiety in general. I feel like if she actually did have people viewing her videos, they would appreciate this one the most because she is admitting to how she is genuinely feeling and is owning her shit. That’s more comforting to me than any bullshit cliches.

God. This feels so real too me. I have definitely had the same rigid walk, just trying to hold it together until I could make it behind a closed door. The way the sound cut out when she slammed her door. And then how she fights against her father being there, even though he obviously isn’t going anywhere, and even though deep down she probably wants him to be there. But her body lashes out in one last ditch effort to protect herself from the vulnerable moment.

The audio getting cut off after Kayla shuts the door is incredibly eerie. When Mark walks in and Kayla just lets the beast of her anxiety run rampant, with the audio of Kayla's final video muting the sound of Kayla's cries, just shows how easy it is to mask up your feelings to the public. There are definitely patterns of behaviour when something like this happens, but the reaction of the person going through this is entirely dependant on who they are as a person.

i did not expect this movie to hit me so hard. i was in 8th grade in 2013-2014 and God this movie is so accurate. the mindless scrolling. the way she is so moody and snappy with her dad but also worries she makes him sad. the crush on the edgy boy with nice eyes that she knows literally nothing about. being awkward with family friends who are slightly more popular at school. the carefree online personality vs being super quiet at school. and just like her, i met some super friendly high schoolers when i was in 8th grade who made me so happy and so excited for high school. and just like her, one of them was an older guy who, in hindsight, was very inappropriate with me. i knew it made me uncomfortable but i would always apologize to him, go home, slam my door, and cry. this movie had me sobbing. it felt like a hug for a part of myself that i thought i had blocked out of my brain. if there's any 8th grade girlies out there reading my ramble - pls know that it seriously gets better. 14 is such a weird, sad age. just let it be. feel all the feelings. don't rush into growing up. cling onto art or music or whatever makes you feel sane. you won't feel like this forever.

I dropped out of high school due to anxiety. The teachers were worthless when it came to helping students that had anxiety every day at school. They just didn't care.

“Maybe I’ll see you guys around”. I feel like this line is profoundly heartbreaking. Kayla has very few, if any, actual followers. But she keeps making videos. She keeps reaching out. She wants someone, somewhere, to hear her words and to see her. It’s beautiful yet tragic at the same time. God this movie hit me on such a deep level.

This is one of the best directed moments of last year. The way the camera follows her upstairs and frantically around the corner, then the door slamming on us cutting us out completely. The lingering silence, her dad entering and trying to calm her, but we're outside her room and can't hear anything because she's hiding herself from us. Instead we hear her speaking to her viewers; the way she wants to present herself. Brilliant.

This movie ticks off every human emotion possible. I was happy, sad, proud, angry, uncomfortable. I felt everything by the end of the movie. Definitely my favorite movie and performance of the year.

I like to think that the music in this scene represents her feelings. And when she closes the door those feelings are isolated, which is why the music stops.

Her monologue to the camera is the first scene in this film that made me weep. I feel so much for her character and can 100% identify with that anxiety and isolation, especially when I was in middle school. So so good.

I feel everything she says. It is the feeling of wanting relief but knowing you will never have it. I wish I was born male and have been reflecting on my childhood and teen years a lot. I think often about this, the nervousness and constant sense of dread. I was happy once but those days are behind me and now life is just full of the worst case of butterflies...never the good kind

@@sonicpopcorn1066 while I agree people should not go throwing the word around. If someone has not felt happy for over a year and is having suicidal thoughts I'm pretty sure it's safe to say they're depressed
