What you say about American thinking applies far beyond Physics. Americans are isolated in outlook. They like what is American, and buy what is American; understandable perhaps because they are a large isolated island with a society built rapidly on 'the American Dream' of progress without limitations. This outlook means they often do not even recognise developments in Europe. My own field of Audio Quality measurement is an example of this. When I founded a business in 1978 to sell my Audio Analyser, which made measurements based on European standards, I met with huge success. Our instruments are now regarded as 'the defacto standard' by many big broadcast and studio organisations, and many millions of pounds worth have been sold - in the UK, Europe, South Africa, Australia, Hong Kong; but practically none in the USA. At a show I was told 'it's not sexy enough' - which shocked me as a scientist and perhaps sums up the issue! More specifically, Americans just did not recognise that European measurement methods exist and dominate because they are better. 'We use A-weighting for noise measurement', they will say. When I explain that it does not give meaningful results, dates from the 1920's and was superceded by CCIR464, now ITU-R-468 following research in the sixties in Germany and then the UK (BBC), they simply repeat 'we use A-weighting because it gives lower noise figures which are better for marketing purposes'. This is just one example.

I migrated to US from India five decades ago. I agree with you. I always tell my Indian friends that Americans are doers not deep thinkers. They are satisfied with enough knowledge of nature which enables them to exploit it for financial gains or defense. In physics, one can have a very convincing explanation of a natural phenomenon, but , the ontological reality may be totally different. We should strive to learn how really nature works.

Up to the first half of 20th century, Physics was developed by a number of very smart and genial people, which found a way to prove or disprove their theories and hypotheses. Lise Meitner just guessed what fission products were, she didn't need a particle accelerator to make such fundamental discovery. Personally I believe that, for understanding the inner structure of the matter and an unifying theory, we don't need bigger accelerators, just some better research and reasoning methods. The entire discussion about EU and US science isn't relevant. There are bright minds either side; just the approach to big monetary investments is different. Run 3 at LHC is 13.6 TeV actually and that number will be ever increasing in the coming years. I don't believe we are going to make any fundamental discovery on the structure of matter. I believe we have a problem understanding rather than measuring new particles...

All branches of science started to degrade in the 30th of last century. Hans Selye attributed this to the fact that around that time science stopped being a pass-time of wealthy driven by curiosity and became a job of a middle class, funded by universities, businesses etc. Today this trend is coming to its logical end with by my estimate, at least 95% of scientific publications in any field being a scientific garbage. This makes it impossible not only solve a scientific problem, but even be aware that such problem exists.

Curious Mind, I agree with you' Every field of science is ruined. I explored this topic in the 1980s when I was a graduate student in an old department of very old professors, and learned that the problem (at least in the US) slowly began in the 1960s when patents became linked to the work of scientists and then became worse and worse as money became the dominating factor in all decisions for positions and prestige. In recent years you can see that 'science' is managed by rain-maker prominent science-politicians (Fauchi-friends of Fauchi for ex) who command large groups of employees or dependents, often spanning several locations, where the politician manager works full time promoting and advertising for money. Even back then, we would hold a press conference, timed to submission of a big grant proposal. Now that system is very professional, wherein schools such as MIT have well funded promotion departments. In the biotech arena, politicians at the very top manage the grift by working closely with Bill Gates, WHO, WEF and large corporations to give them what they want. Virtually all 'science' in America is merely a political response to money opportunities provided by captured politicians who decide on money flow. In the private sector we see the same thing, where 'scientists' who promote commercially desirable notions (neonicotinoids do not affect bees! eating eggs prevent heart attacks!) are funded and carried out via 'experiments' that are designed to provide data for companies such as BASF and the national egg board and that can be argued to support the sponsor. The churning we see in particle physics (give us billions to do more of the same without following evidence driven hypotheses ) is merely a symptom of a larger problem. After the collapse of the American empire, which is well underway, we need a new ethos, similar to what emerged from the dark ages after the collapse of Rome. We can start with a next generation communication system that promotes or rewards truth by employing truth sifting rules that have been hammered out by 200 years of experience in the legal system, (which similarly has been struggling with the search for truth). In this regard, the humanities and sciences can finally come together in a common quest for truth, elusive as that may be. Best regards from the Japan Islands.

Different places, different thinking. However, overall, the educational system is currently designed to keep you off track, to keep you off of the path of truth. For instance, most people think that the phenomena described via Einstein's theory of special relativity(SR), are bizarre or complicated, when in fact even if you are a school dropout, you can discover the cause behind the SR phenomena all by yourself, if your mind is on the path of truth. In other words, throw everything that you have been taught, out the window, and then start from scratch. In this case, start by analyzing motion to figure out exactly what it is, and before you know it, you will have figured it all out, and at the very same time will have derived the SR equations.

As an American physicist in training, who speaks and reads writes in German a little bit, I would love a copy of your book in both German and English, though Im sure my German comprehension will increase by reading your book in German, it is going to take me significantly longer to get through it as a result, but perhaps thats not such a bad thing. I am in complete agreement with your statements on the state of physics in America, and I think we need to return to the type of fundamental thinking that that led to discoveries like brownian motion for example, and proof that atoms exist. I am of the opinion that we need new mathematics or to change our mathematics in order to more accurately describe nature in ways that doesn't require renormalizations which are mathematically illegitimate. Dogma like "shut up and calculate" is perhaps the most harmful because it prevents the fundamental analysis of our logic and reasoning.

The problem with modern Physics is the utter lack of a Reality Theory to which Physics refers. Imagine electromagnetism without poles, or a Theory of Gravity without the Heliocentric model of the Solar System ... they simply DON"T MAKE SENSE, which is exactly the position of today's Physics. In lieu of coherent models we get politics. The only thing to which Physics consistently refers is the scientific "expertise" and hence political "authority" of its celebrity proponents.

Right now, there are two urgencies. 1) To shift from particles-based physics to chronon-based physics. Sam Vaknin's work from 1984 has been ignored for too long. My work continued a new direction in 2003. In a chronon based physics, a scalar (Not a coordinate) field of time is deconstructed into quantum states i.e., chronon wave functions. In the full description there are systems of 1,2,3 and even 4 Reeb vectors describing non geodesic alignment of these events as the reason for forces and thus matter and of gravity as the response of an observer manifold to the misalignment. One Reeb vector is sufficient to describe the electromagnetic phenomena. 2) One of the results is that not only inertial mass generates gravity, but also electric charge does. Charge is, however, coupled to a non-geodesic 4-vector and is therefore not equivalent to inertial mass. Negative charge generates a weak anti-gravity field and positive charge generates a weak gravity field. That can explain why the hot positively ionized gas of the Bullet Cluster is misidentified as Dark Matter. Electrons on the other hand have light mass and are easily accelerated to relativistic speeds and escape galactic gravity. These free intergalactic electrons cause a "Dark Energy" effect. So not all the DM and DE effects are weakly interacting particles. Corroboration of this effect is very difficult but possible. It is easy to come up with null results when testing high voltage capacitors for an Inertial Dipole effect with low capacitor area or with an insulating material which is too light weighted. The H4D lab in Brazil used an improvised balance in order to allow wide area capacitors and to reduce the weight of shielded capacitors due to limits of the scales they used. Scales lose the high resolution as the weight grows. Martin Tajmar (sounds Taymar) from Dresden, on the other hand, botched the experiment and my analysis of his experiment shows weight loss which is 1 to 2 orders of magnitude less than his highest resolution (0.1 mg scales and 0.3 mg sensitivity of the experiment). It is best to use an insulating layer with as low as possible dielectric constant because anti-aligned dielectric dipoles oppose the external polarity and destroy the effect. This is said although (14) in my paper, shows that higher charge on the plates or lower relative dielectric constant work the same way. Higher charge and higher dielectric constant therefore should cancel out, however, (14) makes some dangerous assumption about how uniform is the distribution of induced dipole. You can see my 2022 paper Electro-gravity via geometric chronon field and on the origin of mass in ResearchGate. This 2022 paper is beyond comparison more advanced than my IARD publication from 2017 and has a breakthrough that is not included in the arXiv publication.

My later work also predicts exact mass ratios e.g. Muon/electron and the exact inverse Fine Structure Constant. There is also a surprise which is an unexpected exact relation between the pole energy of the Bottom Quark and the Muon (33). The pole energy of the Bottom Quark by A. M. Badalian is 4.778 GeV and this value appears in my paper as 4.7787.. GeV. The Muon energy from the electron energy fits the 2014 value of 105.6583745 MeV. In theory it is 105.65837455 MeV. The CODATA value is 105.6583755 MeV. These results should cause a Tsunami. Instead, they are ignored.

@@illogicmath Also look the following: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jaTNmKembr2NrtE . The only way out is a theory which is based on events and not on particles. The system has a universal observer. Geometry itself becomes quantized and the equation of gravity bridges between an observer and an observed geometry. In this way, no artificial devices such as ADM, Wheeler - de Witt a are required. There has been much success with symmetry but no specific logical reason it has to be a perfect 1 and since our theories use differential equations and there’s no way to know the initial conditions “pre Big Bang”, a pseudo mystery of why there is more matter than antimatter is created and they can ask for more money to solve it. I've just commented on an earlier talk of yours on the same subject, and will add here i believe it's because American culture is based on materialism, and the current paradigm is embedded in a reductionist, materialist world-view. There's zero intellectual integrity with that. As a new traveller in the US I was quite shocked by this very real observation. Also, just wanted to add: Loved the chat with Disney, and this idea of logarithmic time; how a child of 9 perceives a year of one's life as opposed to someone of say 90... that for a child it would be a 9th of their existence, but a 90th of a mans. That surely shows how relative time works depending on the experience of the observer, but it also implies time is experienced as speeding up, because that old man will notice the years fly by while the child will pain over it longing for the day he is older. I'm getting older & I certainly experience time accelerating, but i had a recurring dream as an infant, where a metronome could be heard ticking only to accelerate to a frantic pace. It was quite terrifying. It would always start the same way, and end abruptly in a deathly silence. I have never been able to forget it & today I see many things speeding up to some kind of convergence... (we have a lot of convergent technology already: yesterday you needed a sat-nav now it's all on a phone). As we stare deeper into the universe, the faster it escapes us. I've wondered that if it were true that we are all linked, as the Vedas & many ancient traditions attest, then maybe it is our own consciousness mirrored in the universe itself...as if we really are all part of the same thing... an extension to Gaia Theory I suppose. Just a thought. Thanks for yours. Please keep up the good work. Stay safe.

The original warning to the U.S. of the possibility of German development of a war-winning fission bomb was done by former Europeans who left due to Hitler, supported by Einstein, a German. Thus the Manhattan Project. A large project, with those big machines, was necessary, if for no other reason was that two methods of mass separation had to be tested in parallel. Large, expensive efforts and machines became accepted and productive in the U.S. Europe was also quite accepting of this. To such an extent that it looks as if a successor to the LHC will be built at CERN, though there is no case for new particles before the Plank scale. I'm glad Europe doesn't mind large expensive projects. I suspect that the next fundamental physics is likely to appear in the astrophysics community, where Europe is building wonderful equipment. Frankly, I don't know what you're on about, but I don't think I'll be buying your books.

@@TheMachian I found something else interesting. Look up an individual by the name of Carver Mead if you want. He was the founder of VLSI engineering but has other theories also: Now, in the opening years of the new millennium, Mead believes that it is time to clear up the philosophical and practical confusion of contemporary physics. He revisits the debate between the Copenhagen interpreters of quantum physics--Niels Bohr, Alfred Heisenberg, John von Neumann, Richard Feynman--and the skeptics, principally Albert Einstein and Erwin Schrodinger. Pointing to a series of experiments from the world of microelectronic and photonic technology that still lay in the future when Bohr prevailed in his debates with Einstein, Mead rectifies an injustice and awards a posthumous victory to Einstein. During a lifetime in the trenches of the semiconductor industry, Mead developed a growing uneasiness about the "standard model" that supposedly governed his field. Mead did not see his electrons and photons as random or incoherent. He regarded the concept of the "point particle" as an otiose legacy from the classical era. Early photodetectors or Geiger counters may have provided both visual and auditory testimony that photons were point particles, but the particulate click coarsely concealed a measurable wave. Central to Mead's rescue project are a series of discoveries inconsistent with the prevailing conceptions of quantum mechanics. One was the laser. As late as 1956, Bohr and von Neumann, the paragons of quantum theory, arrived at the Columbia laboratories of Charles Townes, who was in the process of describing his invention. With the transistor, the laser is one of the most important inventions of the twentieth century. Designed into every CD player and long distance telephone connection, lasers today are manufactured by the billions. At the heart of laser action is perfect alignment of the crests and troughs of myriad waves of light. Their location and momentum must be theoretically knowable. But this violates the holiest canon of Copenhagen theory: Heisenberg Uncertainty. Bohr and von Neumann proved to be true believers in Heisenberg's rule. Both denied that the laser was possible. When Townes showed them one in operation, they retreated artfully. In Collective Electrodynamics, Mead cites nine other experimental discoveries, from superconductive currents to masers, to Bose-Einstein condensates predicted by Einstein but not demonstrated until 1995. These discoveries of large-scale, coherent quantum phenomena all occurred after Bohr's triumph over Einstein...

WWII was not decided by the atomic bomb. The world's first nuclear explosion (a test one obviously) was on July 16, 2015. German capitulation had happened 2 months earlier. Japan's surrender was helped/sped up by the bombs, for sure. But the war had been painfully and obviously lost for the Japanese after the Battle of Okinawa (April 2015), when the US conquered the island that would have allowed them to stage an invasion of the Japanese main islands (you can also go earlier - to the firing of Tojo in 1944; main point being that this was before the bombs were dropped). Cherry-picking your 1920s-1950s examples only proves that you can do, well, cherry-picking (plural of anecdotes is not data ...). Anyway, in many Germans there's always some strong anti-americanism desperately trying to get out (while claiming to be unbiased, which I find laughable).

I’ve watched a number of your video’s and by and large find them interesting, if not a little predictable. You seem to have a particular proclivity for early 20th century physics for which if I didn’t know better [I don’t know better] you might very well consider a kind of a romantic golden age. I mean why wouldn’t you when you have the likes of Dirac, Einstein, Heisenberg, Born, Plank, etc making inroads in fundamental physics. I too think like you. But I do feel there is a counter-point. You link America with the degradation of physics - yet the US has produced more Nobel Prize laureates in physics than Germany, UK, France, Russia and Japan combined. I do grant you, however, many were Europeans fleeing Europe. Paul Dirac was a research student in mathematics at Cambridge university, a university that has been teaching for some 800 years - almost four hundred years before the Arrival of Christopher Columbus. Similarly, Heisenberg’s Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich has been teaching for about 550 years. There is a certain tradition and prestige that comes with these institutions - something a relatively youngish country like the US can’t, try as it might, accelerate. When it comes to the Manhattan project, you will find people like Arthur Compton, Ernest Lawrence and Opje all made mention that building the bomb was very much an engineering endeavour - all claiming the physics was not especially difficult. I’m not a physics historian nor a learned in the philosophy of physics but I think I can comfortably say physics has passed the era where a Wilhelm Roentgen, discovers X-rays, accidentally while testing whether cathode rays could pass through glass. As you know, we need bigger and bigger machines to bring particles to the very high speeds and very high energies. I do always look fwd to your next video however, With Regards Jack Dikian

The irony is that I’m an American and understand more about the Natural Order (Universal Logic - the One True God) and the universe (nature) it manifests/realizes Itself as than you do. Not in a “superficial” way either as the Logos is “Substance” as Substance truly is - the Substance and Essence of Logic and Systems/Existence. It is also arrogant of a European to think they understand more than an American by nature of being European or that Science, Philosophy, and Civilization started with Europe. Just as America is young compared to Europe, Europe is young compared to civilizations like the Egyptians, the Israeli’s/Israelite’s, the Mesopotamians/Iraqi’s, the Indians/Hindus, the Chinese, etc. All of them knew of Logic by one name or another (YHVH, Ma’at, Enki, Brahman, Tao, etc.) in eras where Europeans were basically native tribes and Neanderthal-like barbarians without complex civilization. If you knew more and thought deeper you’d take the assumption out of your question “what principles” (plural) rule the universe and would ponder the Principle (singular) - the First Law, the First Cause, the Original Logic, the Universal Logic, the One True God , the Axiom of Continuous Discretion (shown as foundational in physical and metaphysical logical systems and in coherent schools of thought), the Dynamic/General/Universal Law of Identity and Non- Contradiction - the One who will be who/what the One will be and is not what/who it is not (YHVH). The Universal Rule is the Universal Rule (Tautology) and is synonymous with coherent Logic and the coherent Origin (True God). It can be no other way and to argue against Logic as God is to defy Logic and to blaspheme God as being less logical than is feasible - imposing arbitrary and illusory boundaries on what is rationally and truly boundless: the Infinite Wisdom of God (the Dynamic Logic of the Universe).

Hello Dr. Unzicker, I would like your opinion on an idea that occurred to me about the nature of gravity: Couldn't the curvature of the "fabric" of space-time be caused by the inertial resistance of mass to the accelerating expansion of the universe in the time direction? I know you don't agree with Minkowski's 4D model, but if we think for a moment that the universe is really made up of four physical dimensions, it would be very logical that bodies would obstruct its expansion in the time direction, and hence the more mass, the more time dilation (which is a proven fact). It may sound outlandish, but I would really like your opinion about this idea. Thank you very much.

I agree that right now physics has reached the crisis point. Would it be different, more correct in the understanding of nature, without WW2 and followed science commercialisation ? Unlikely. Why? Because even at the begging of 20 century the way how problems were solved does not imply the reevaluation of complete physics. The basis of modern quantum theories and etc were created before WW2. But, for instance, nobody even asked the question what is electric charge at this time. And today we still have a very poor definition - just the property of a particle is nothing. Instead of combining theories together, the reevaluation of the theories and all collected data from the begging will be the right approach. Why ? Because nature is functioning as One entity. The correct description of nature require only one theory, and in essence the fundamental physics is about a such theory. The number of good contemporary models/theories of separate phenomena can be big, and they can be useful for engineering, but for the fundamental physics they are not. It looks like the mentioned reevaluation is what should and will happened, all other ways have been already done.

Your deep thinking ‚European Physics‘ vs the either ‚superficial‘ or ‚purely operational‘ (collider based)‘ or ‚purely mathematical/weird ideas‘ based American Physics resonates somewhat the allegedly forthright Deutsche Physik (without the racist flavor). But no one inhibits European or even German physicists to work in the - by you claimed - European tradition. To some extent Penrose would master this Unzicker Test, but the real problem is of another kind. Rightfully the unification of General Relativity and Quantum Mechanics aka Quantum Gravity became either the holy Grail or the idee fixe of todays theoretical physics and this inevitably leads to not classically attainable magnitudes e.g. elementary particles and/or black holes and this again leads to experimental devices as the LHC or observational ones like the LIGO observatories and theories like Super String theories.
