"Back then, before the advancement of computer graphics". Yes, when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. I recorded this back in 1979, I still have the tape. It's quite the best documentary on the subject I've ever seen. And if you watch it, note that the first day of the 21st century is celebrated on Jan 1st 2001, (the correct date), and that Peter decides to end his voyage into the future around Nov 2014; and that he returns to earth sometime after, (or during), 2015.

Only 36 minutes of this video is "Einstein's Universe," which was a 2-hour program from 1979. The rest of this video is "Stargazers," a documentary about the Lowell Observatory narrated by Patrick Stewart.

Many thanks for posting. Wallace Sargent, distinguished astronomer at Caltech, who speaks several times starting about 13:00, is the most famous son of our village and another in North Lincolnshire, England (we both claim him!). Unfortunately he died last year, so it means a lot to have this footage available. Winterton and Elsham thank you! :)

Aww, he's my favourite. :( Surely the coolest astronomer ever too. He's interviewed quite extensively in "The Violent Universe" (which is on KZbin) ... looking stylish as hell. Hehe.

This was only part of the show. I saw the original broadcast on PBS and there was lots more before what's posted here. Still, thanks for what's here.

This was a BBC programme back in 1979. I remember watching it when it first came out at 16 years old. I am now 50! Presented by Peter Ustinov. I have the BBC book of the same name.

Such an awesome documentary but I really could have done without the shrill high pitched noises at the beginning.

17:00 threse guys had so little to work with and yet they were dead on with their predictions... I mean Einstein had only his mind to go on. Good god.

Wallace Sargent has the raddest voice. Kinda like a cooler Ringo Starr. He's interviewed in "The Violent Universe" from 1969 and looks like the King of the Mods. What a dude ... Ha.
