Hey, Eirik. I'm curious about the last armature you showed (the one that's for larger sculptures). Do you have someone weld that type of armature for you? Do you weld them yourself? What skills/equipment are needed to weld armatures from rebar?
@EirikArnesenArt10 ай бұрын
Hello! Yes I don't weld these myself but have someone do it for me. The rebar part is welded and the rest I do myself. If the armature is smaller I will often use plumbers piping which is what I used in this video I believe. Then there is no welding and you simply screw the parts together and use a floor flange to attach the piping to a wooden board. I use plumbers piping in a lot of my videos.

Hey Eirik, I love you work and the way you teach. Hope you are well during COVID-19 pandemic. I have a very basic question here maybe it will sound silly. My question is "how to remove the armature stand(the pipe) after finish the work?". Is there any video related to that? Thanks so much for your efforts. Take care always!

Thank you! Because I make molds of my work the clay sculpture gets destroyed. The internal armature is therefore not removed. Only if you plan to fire your sculpture would you do that. It's seems very hard however and I don't know how to do it properly.

@@EirikArnesenArt i think what i'm going to do is just use short lengths of wire as connectors then during scoop out i can remove them. i will use the pipe armature to hold a bolt which enters the clay mass at pelvis/skull depending..and then all i have to do is gently pull the finished item off 1 bolt. ?? it means 2 armatures, one for figures the other for busts. i hope i got the right idea..my clay is dry in air.

Hiya Eirik,absolutely brilliant work mate,new to sculpting have a question for you,I might come across a bit thick,but the armature stand,does that stay with the piece of art or do you detach it in some way,all the vids I’ve watched,haven’t seen one that detached from the artwork,would you mind,if you have time mate,explaining how it works👍

The piece in clay is temporary. I make a mold around this piece and cast copies in a different material. The original clay does not survive. The hard copies cast later are strong enough to stand on their own without the external support.

What clay do you use and where do you by it
@EirikArnesenArt2 жыл бұрын
It's a terracotta clay, local to Tuscany I believe.

Where did you find the flange and pole? Thank you
@EirikArnesenArt3 жыл бұрын
They are from Home Depot. Most hardware stores have something similar though it does depend on country and what plumbing hardware they use. It doesn't have to be exactly like this by the way! Anything that can assume a similar shape and is sturdy and strong will work.
