Finishing up the last mechanical stuff on this budget XC60. Of course there is always a lot more you can do with an old car like this, but for this car, I'm happy where it's at right now. Futhermore, I really want to get going with the full detail and body work.
Hope you enjoy the episode!

Wonderful video! So nice to see an intelligent and articulate mechanic do things properly. Can't wait for more on this car!

Do yourself a favor and replace the harmonic balancer! Mine looked also fine but failed catastrophically 10000 kms after a timing belt job, destroying the timing belt in the process. The ones from Corteco are OE, costing only a fraction of the original Volvo.

Are these a common failure on any D5? I’ve had mine (02 D5244T) for 4 years and never touched it apart from a timing belt 2 years ago.

With me it failed on a D5244T (120kw) engine at roughly 280.000km and 18 years in service. I changed the complete engine for used one. Can't say whether it is a common failure or not as it was my first Volvo. OE Part number for D5244T engine: 30731865 (Corteco 80000990) Now own also a S80 D5 with the D5244T10 engine, the harmonic balancer is already on the list for preventative maintenance. The front of the engine looks very similar regarding the timing and auxiliary belt setup.

That volvo easily has another 300.000km of life left. Thank you for saving the XC60, the XC60 couldnt have gotten a better new owner! :D After a good interior detail and new wiper blades its like new.

Nice video, congratulations for your work. I love it!. Ps: that gearbox oil looked very dark, i would advise new oil and filter from Volvo

I didnt quite catch the brand of the ac belt, but either way i'm going to say it: if that ac belt is not a Volvo original part (as in came in Volvo branded blue box), REPLACE IT ASAP, because otherwise when that belt snaps and it will snap, because of a design flaw. The thing is, when the non original belt snaps, it doesn't snap horizontally like the original does and parts of it fly into the timing belt housing. Yes the original belt is something like 30 euros, but hey, still cheaper than a new engine + install. As far as i know it should be changed every 20-30k km.

Great advice indeed. I bought original belts 4 years ago for my S80 D5204T3. Zero issue since. The originals were disintegrating at 7yo/130k km. I've heard multiple times aftermarket belts were snapping so not willing to risk it! I think there is a service bulletin on this somewhere. Alternator flywheel replacement can help too, mine was squeaky in winter so probably harsh on the belt.

The thing cylinder inside the oil filter can actually make a massive divverence and catastrophic engine failiure if it is not there on some cars. Really is good practice to make sure everything is where it should be like you did.

Please advice, my xc60 is model 2012 and has only 70000km on it (I am the first owner), I never changed the timing belt, is it recommended to change it now or wait to more kilometrage?

I highly recommend replacing the auxiliary belts and tensioner when doing timing belt job on these engines. If the aux belt jumps off, parts of it will fly between the timing belt cover and kill the engine. Also the harmonic balancer is good to replace if there are any cracks on the rubber parts. I have replaced timing belts on my Audis and I have always replaced the aux belt and tensioner. Even though on those cars there is no risk for timing to go haywire if the aux belt snaps, it wasn't fun job to start fixing wiring harness and replacing water hoses because shredded aux belt whipping in the engine bay slashed those..

Very nice. Only thing that I would do differently is not to pull on the axle like that. I have had to rebuild two axles because the CV joint on the inside is not protected against pulling! Other than that nice work and continue!

You should really go back and tighten that harmonic balancer too spec. There is a speacial tool to hold it and make sure to replace the nut because it needs degrees.

@ejoautovideos
@ejoautovideos 3 ай бұрын
Tackar! :) 1. Sök på videos och guider i stil med "what to look for when buying first car" Eller liknande.
