What a memorable start to the New Year with this beautiful ghazal rendered soulfully in the divine voice of Mehdi Hassan Saheb ! And I am truly grateful to you, Suman ji, for sharing and giving me the pleasure of listening to this amazing rendition of Khan Sb, performed in a private mehfil! Another one of his unique classical renditions, from his vast repertoire of music! The start with beautiful sargams, sung with multitudinous variations, was a feast for the ears ! The lyrical beauty of this very heartening ghazal penned by Adeeb Saharanpuri, has been personified by his wizardry of words and artful expressions ! And these very heart warming ash'aar, sung in his heavenly voice, touch your heart strings ! Apne apne hausle, apni talab ki baat hai ..Chun liya hum ne tumhe.n , saara jahaa.n rehne diya ! The way he has sung the 'Haaye' could melt any heart ...Ye bhi kyaa jeene mein jeena hai, bagair.... unke 'Adeeb' ...Shama gul kar gayee...Haaye...shama.......baaki dhuaa.n rehne diya .... Be it melody, emotions or range of high and low notes, there was no match to his singing prowess ! Was a treat to listen to this brilliant piece of poetry and rendition ! Made my Day ! Thanks ! शहंशाह-ए - गजल मेहदी हसन साहिब की गजल गायिकी मात्र गजल गायिकी ही नहीं थी बल्कि उनकी गायिकी में शास्त्रीय संगीत की कई बारीकियां एक ही गजल में आ जाती थी। ख्याल ध्रुपद की शक्ल के साथ आलाप, तान, मुर्कियां की खूबसूरती उनकी हर गजल में होती थी।गजल में रागों पर उनका आना और जाना उनका अपना अंदाज था जो उनके साथ शुरू हुआ और उनके साथ ही चला गया। जिन्होंने उनकी ग़ज़लों को सुना वो सुर में आ गए। उनकी ज्यादातर महफिलों की रिकॉर्डिंग तो एल्बम्स में आ ही नहीं पाई। खान साहिब पहले ऐसे फनकार थे जिन्होंने कई अप्रचलित रागों को अपनी ग़ज़लों के माध्यम से पेश किया । यह गजल भी ऐसी ही राग ( dhankoni kalyan) में है जो उनकी एक और गजल - ' फिक्र ही ठहरी तो दिल में ' भी शायद यही रंग नजर आता है उस्ताद जी के एक और rare concert को अपलोड करने के लिए बहुत बहुत शुक्रिया सौरव जी

I would advise ghazal lovers NOT to listen to Mehdi Hasan, otherwise you would be very badly addicted, and no other singer would satisfy your quest for good ghazals. Period
