This mod and display output mod paired together are a doorway to mods. You can now make the top screen anything. Print a custom shell, add a bigger battery, program a small board that accepts component video signals and outputs them to the display of your choice. Bam, now your top screen can be eink, transflective lcd, amoled, crt (if the case is bulky enough), or whatever the hell screen you can make it as long as it accepts component video signal input. And you can swap which display is on the normal and which one on the special with this mod.

If top screen is broken no need to macro, just keep it and stick this mod in leaving the speakers were they are and allow the top half to protect the bottom screen

An interesting mod, but seems to be a lot of work to get around, regardless of installation and playing it. Good video. Also seeing you play Guitar Hero On Tour makes me think of my special edition DS I bought years ago. Haven't played it due to my grip thinking it's pressing the red button. Looking forward to your next video.

If the hinge is that big a problem, then what about a custom 3D printed shell that turns a DS into a 2DS form factor? That would remove all the complexity of repairing the top screen, plus remove the stress that breaks the top screen cable to begin with. It'd lose some of its aesthetic, but that would preserve the console for years.

Very nice mod! I also built a macro with the screen change myself and soldered a switch directly to the vias. Then flashed the WiFi board. By the way, you can use a PSP speaker. There is enough space on the ribbon cable of the lower screen. But you should drill holes for it, otherwise the sound is very quiet.

This is what I hate about DS games on those small screen retro handhelds like the Anbernic RG405M - one 4 inch screen just doesn't cut it and swapping screens sucks, and the DS is smaller. Now I can have that with original hardware? Sign me up. Not.
