I started playing for this legendary choir when I was 9 years old. My father Dr. Ioselani Seumanutafa Pouesi was the Pastor (1960s). My cuz Fa'au Seumanutafa Maeata'anoa and Tiavolo Seumanutafa Pogai were the ones teaching the music during that time. There were no keyboards in those days. Fa'au played the two-manual Pumped Organ(German Model), and I played the small black portable pumped organ(Japanese Model). An unforgettable and inspirational experience to hear the powerful/beautiful voices of the choir (from low basses to high sopranos) and to play Salamos by Uncle Mata'utia Pene Solomona and my father. The CCJS choirs in Samoa and abroad continue to carry this tradition of singing from the early 1940s to the 21st century. CCJS Church was founded by Samoan Pastors (Graduates from Malua) - Pouesi/Apia, Ueligitone/Pago Pago, Levi/Fagatogo. The first Samoan church to publish a hymn book (words with original music/1953-Boston). The last Salamo 'Ia outou pepese i le Ali'i' was composed for the EFKAS choir competition at Kanana Fou (2000). I believe God has blessed CCJS with the Gift of Music. Many musicians from CCJS became known faipese, music professors in Samoa and abroad (e.g. Ueta Solomona/Apia, Pulefa'asisina Brownie Tuiasosopo, Flo Wendt/Fagatogo, Tagaloa Peter Su'a/NZ, etc.). Alofa tele to Rev. Fiti Aloali'i and family, cuz Palauni Seumanutafa Tiavolo and choir. God bless you all. Love forever!
