I hope you are right but unfortunately she was pretty bad as I watched the full match. Double figures double faults and 30+ unforced errors. To progress she needs much higher quality tennis. She only won this because Alexandrova was dire too.

@ i know and thats exactky where your issue is. Anyone can beat anyone on any given day in tennis. To just say someone can’t beat someone because of a serve or power is completely ludicrous. Tennis is a game of the mind more than anything else. The reason Serena won so much because of the intimidation factor. I think your narrow minded power game of tennis is something you should ponder.

Okay its just brief highlights but one thing to notice with ER in this match is how well she played the whole court making her opponent work so hard, stretching from one side back and forth, deep and mid-court over and over - she didn't do that last year and it was frustrating to watch, and plus her injuries of course, so she struggled. Big improvement methinks.

If you look at extended highlights you can see how ridden with unforced errors this match was. Yes Emma played a bit better but Alexandrova was really off. But let’s see if Emma can play better in next rounds and stay physically strong enough.

She'll have to serve better if she wants to go deep into the tournament.15 double fault's in 2 sets.Her first serve percentage has to improve as her 2nd serve is very week & will get punished by the better players.Hope she can stay healthy as she's very injury prone.If she can get to the quarters I think she'll be satisfied with that.The inconsistency let's her down as she's got the talent to do better than she does.🎾

I ended up switching the match off half way through the first set. (It was after 1am in the UK tho.) But the match just did not get going. Too many errors from both players and it wasn’t enjoyable to watch. Pleased ER won but she’ll need to serve better and have less unforced errors in the next rounds if she wants to make it into the 2nd week. Impressive points ER won today tho were definitely in the tie-breaks. She’s so clutch under pressure.

Offence is great, varied range of shots, lots of power - Defence not so much, still gives up on points too easily, is caught out of position. Work to do but the base has always been there.

@@jdevlin1910 Yeah I agree - her tennis IQ is very high, her technique on her strokes is very good and so is her footwork. She can generate power when she chooses to go after the ball, but at the moment she’s too inconsistent with her fitness and often drops the ball short, but that can built over time. People need to give her a break, if people would simply allow her to develop.. in a couple of years she’ll be a very complete player.
