Sir thanks for clear understanding... One mistake is happen while calculating volumetric strain. The correct formula of volumetric strain us equal to sum of longitudinal strain and 2 times of circumferential strain.

I have a problem that in problem number 1 , you have taken volumetric strain = hoop stress + longitudinal strain but in problem 2 , volumetric strain = 2(hoop strain) + longitudinal strain. Not getting the concept!!

I too have the same question. I think volumetric strain = 2(hoop strain) + longitudinal strain because then only we will get volumetric strain = pd/4tE(5-4μ) which is correct....volumetric strain=hoop strain + longitudinal strain leads to volumetric strain = pd/4tE(3-3μ) which is wrong.

sir. great work. now o dont have to study longer in those large books. simply explained. i have a question . can u please anser. question - A thin cylinder with both ends closed is subjected to internall pressure p. the longitudinal stress at the surface has been calculated as sigma , max shear stress will be equal to... ( my answer is 0.5 sigma) is it correct?
