Magnificent production! "Lāvanya Rāmā Kanulāra Jūdavé" is a composition of Saint Tyāgarāja (1767-1847), who is revered as part of the Trinity in Carnatic Music. This composition, set to Carnatic Rāga Pūrna Shadjam is what inspired Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore to come up with this Bengali song (Rabindra Sangeet), "Lābanya Purāno Prān". Popular playback singer in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, and Kannada cinema, Ms. Shweta Mohan renders a blend of both these songs in this awesome presentation, arranged and produced by the supremely talented Sourendro Soumyojit. Happy to note that all Bengali listeners are so much taken by the perfect diction and magical voice of Shwetha. Long back Mannadeyda, during the mid 1960s, had stolen the hearts of all Malayalees through his song in Chemmeen, Maanasa Maine Varoo, composed by none other than Salilda. Shreya Ghoshal has now made her strong presence in Kerala through many outstanding songs rendered with immense feel and perfect diction. Yesudas had made an impact in Bengal years ago and decades later Shwetha seems to have recreated that magic through her mellifluous voice. The Siurendra-Soumyajit duo have done a marvellous job arranging an excellent score for the strings and choral voices. The flavour of Carnatic music, very subtly used here and there, really adds to the beauty of the song. I am sure the great poet cum composer late Rabindranath Tagore would have loved listening to this innovative version of his song. Hearty Congratulations to Shwetha, Sourendra, Soumyajit and all those involved in the making of this captivating song.
