Legends. RIP. One of the many Munomukabi musical tours of 1996-1997 sponsored by ESB Chairman beer, brewed by Nile Breweries Ltd. The tours went to towns like Mbale, Masaka, Jinja and different places in Buganda region. The tour was conjured up by Andrew Benon Kibuuka, after months of trying to reconcile Kasozi and Basudde. The two had a bitter rivalry for years. Paul Job Kafeero joined the 2 in appreciation of what kasozi had done for him. Kasozi, while not as greatly talented in terms of song writing and composition like Herman Semakula Basudde, played a leading role in revolutionising kadongo kamu beats (Night Part 2), adding skits to kadongo kamu songs on the stage (he played as "Mpanga" with Moses Katende) and also had an eye for spotting promising, budding and upcoming musical talent on the many tours he made in the countryside (he spotted Kafeero from Bukunja, spotted Basudde in Masaka, he also discovered Walukagga from Masaka too, among others). In fact it is Walukagga who composed the song "Namumpenje", the lunatic that Kasozi sings about having a spree with in a lodge while in Rakai. He left kasozi's Lukwata Advanced Singers a few months before he died. This particular concert/show (captured in the video above) was held on Christmas day, 25th December, 1996 at Nakivubo Stadium, a few months before kasozi passed on in May, 1997 at his ancestral home in kyaboggo, Rakai district. The tour was a campaign to raise awareness and sensitise Ugandans about the HIV/AIDS scourge, raise money for the treatment of Livingstone Kasozi, who had recently come out in the open to declare his HIV positive status and also used the same tours to reconcile the two Kadongo greats, kasozi and Basudde. these two had for a long time been bitter rivals despite having worked together under Lukwata Guitar Singers, headed by Moses Katende and later Livingstone kasozi. On parting ways, Kasozi changed Lukwata Guitar Singers to Lukwata Advanced Singers and later Kampala Music Stars. Basudde, on the other hand, went on to form Kabuladda Professional Singers. The two groups, with Matendo Band led by Fred Sebatta, Bazira Guitar Singers, Matia Luyima's Super Singers, Entebbe Guitar Singers of Dan Mugula and Matia Kakumirizi, Picking Festack Guitar Singers were the strongest musical groups at the time. We shall greatly miss you our greats
