Every once in a while I come back to this video, I walked this path 10y ago in the same decrepit state as it was in this video... I still feel nausea coming up whenever Daniel passes these risky spots and he did so with a camera... I used my both hands to 'support' myself along the hillside (or at least I tricked myself into thinking it was safer that way)... What a brave soul he was, making these incredible videos of his adventures.

My Father and I came across this video when it was first published. We would watch it stoned. I have been trying to find this video again for years! But I swore it was a 15 minute long video so I probably skipped right past this one quite a few times. Lol. Watched it again today for the first time in years and for the first time since the passing of my father. 6:41 totally felt like 15. I am sad to learn of your passing. I hope that your final moments were filled with peace and gratitude. Not many people in their final moments get to say they lived.

RIP Daniel Ahnen (who filmed this amazing footage of him undertaking this walk). Tragically, Daniel, aged only 35, lost his life on the Arwa Spire, on May 11, 2011 only 2-1/2 years after this was filmed. So young ..... At least he died doing something he loved but he was so very young. I can't believe he achieved this whilst carrying a video camera.

Wow, seen this a dozen times but still gives me the chils! i am happy to say I've walked the trail but I do admit I've done it at late 2021 after the repairs / renovation. Must say it's still as impressive as it looks here on this video, and much safer which is fine! Nice touch too to leave some of the bad / broken parts of the old trail, to see how bad it was a few years ago. Also have been lucky to be able to pass over the hanging bridge, as the day I'd planned this was the first day that week they opened that option, the wind was too much to allow this. One note on the great choice of sound track (really fitting, IMO), whose the voice giving a speech of sorts at around 2:00 in the video? I assume it's a US president, but I really don't know for sure.

I did this about 10 years ago, had to sneak down the railway line to get in, and it really was arse-um! I've done lots of silly things before but this was the worst - all the others were supervised or organised or official in some way, whereas here it really is your responsibility. If you make a mistake, you're dead. If anything goes wrong, you're dead. And you'd have a few seconds to scream too, if you could breathe through the shock! When I went there was no-one else there and I only started worrying when I saw my friend walking round a corner ahead of me (approx 4 mins into this vid) and realised what she was walking on and what therefore I must have looked like too. Suddenly the mental control that allows us to overcome common sense began failing. Plus we came across a plaque to three lads who'd died there, not shown on the video, which was a sobering reality check. Ten years on and I'm 43 and watching this, my palms are sweating and I actually feel a little unwell. Would I do it again? Yes. But would I do it now? Hmmm. But what a brilliant film and it's brought back some extraordinary memories and tangible feelings! Tim, Montenegro

I did this walk back in 2010. It was an incredible experience but very dangerous one as well! I saw the remembrance plaque too on the wall and that kind of hit home thinking, damn that could be me! Their was 5 deaths that occurred in 1999 and 2000 I believe so it's definitely a dangerous walk. But I can proudly say I completed it and it's something to tick off my to do list!

As of July 28, 2014, the first 100 meters or so of the Caminito were repaired. The section where the trail was destroyed to prevent entry was re-done, and the only thing keeping you out is a couple of flimsy fences which can be easily moved and walked around, and dozens of “entry prohibited, no trespassing” signs. No technical climbing skills or equipment are needed to walk on the restored section. However, the section is very narrow and there is no railing (yet). The safety rope is still there, but it is loose and in sad shape. So if heights make you unsteadily dizzy - better spend the day at the beautiful beach in Torremolinos. To get to Caminito del Rey you no longer need to walk around the railway. From the curve just past the train station take the road toward the gorge. It soon becomes unpaved, but in good condition and no 4WD is needed. Park at the parking lot just in front of the gate on the left (no further access) Coordinates: North 36 degrees, 54 minutes, 44.9 seconds. West 004 degrees, 45 minutes, 57.8 seconds. Gently move the fence blocking the trail on the right (going uphill), and follow the trail which will then curve left and down, and in less than two minutes gets you to the beginning of Caminito del Rey. Move another fence, take a deep breath, and you are there! The restored section is in great shape. If any of the construction workers are present they would probably ask you to leave because works is still in progress.

My friends and I have been wanting to walk this for years - so whilst we were out in El Chorro this past month (on a climbing trip) naturally we HAD to visit it... unfortunately, I'd now consider the Caminito del rey the World's Safest Walkway...The locals have built and entirely new timber walkway over the top of the existing. Whats worse is that they've also completely forbidden participation in any of the climbing routes which can be accessed off the pathways. Major bummer.

Consider the lifes that were lost in that place. Consider the rescue costs of unprepared, unequipped, untrained, irresponsible people. If one just wants to risk their life, there are a lot of other ways to do it... I am happy they repaired it. This way I was able to do it without fearing for my life and everyone can enjoy the beauty of the place. Also, there are still a lot of climbing routes and vias-ferrata there if you are more adventurous. ;)

Damn that is some scary s**t ! The guy who filmed this must have an enormous set of cojones, he walked across those narrow bits of steel like they were nothing. Also I'd be worried about the structural strength of some of that concrete, it could just give out from under you ! Anyway it looks like they've rebuilt the walkway in a much safer manner, so maybe someone less brave such as myself can enjoy the scenery !

No, he would have wanted to carry on climbing! he could have been an active climber [health permitting] well into his seventies.. it is absurd when people say ''oh, but he/she would have wanted to go that way''....they would not.. they would want to be doing their sport for decades to come..Geo Thermal

juandenz2008 I'm not a brave person, but I did el caminito last week. You don't need to be brave to do it, you need to trust yourshelf and enjoy. The new structures are safe, it's nothing like this video but the experience is amazing, this place is magic, is really beautiful.....
