The goalkeeper cannot be so close to the near post because if the shot crosses the far post he will not reach it, and he also has to have his legs bent to be able to reach the low cross shot to the ground, if he does not have his legs bent he would not be able to reach it. When a goalkeeper faces a shot from a quality player he knows that that player can put the ball close to the post and thus cover the largest possible space in the goal. If later, that player puts it on the near post and high, then it depends on the goalkeeper's reflexes and the reaction he has because perhaps he was thinking that the forward could make a cross shot to the far post. It does not seem to me so much a mistake by the goalkeeper, but rather that he expected a cross shot and therefore did not have time to react to take the shot to the near post and high. We see quite a few goals scored by goalkeepers where the player instead of crossing the shot does it by shooting hard and high to the near post. The goalkeeper could have been better, I'm not saying that he wasn't, but I'm not sure as to whether it was a mistake. Not all goals are scored in a one-on-one with the goalkeeper or by shooting from a central position, many goals are scored with cross shots to the far post or cross shots to the near post, it's a question of knowing how to trick the goalkeeper and put the ball in a place that's difficult for the goalkeeper to react to, it's more a player's skill than a goalkeeper's error.
