In this video, I have broken one of the Yoruba words for describing the highest being down into bits and explained each part in detail. Translating a word as ancient, natural and descriptive as 'Olódùmarè' to 'God,' simply, is a great disservice to all. I have gone into more prehistoric aspects and assessed feminine and masculine attributes/energies in relation to what a supreme being must be like, using a more-popular belief system as a case study.

🤦🏾‍♀ How embarrassing! The so-called "standard" dialect is not the standard; I beg your pardon. Hearing myself call it the standard is irritating since there was no general consensus among the towns. It is the most common dialect because Samuel Ajayi Crowther, who contributed largely to our current writing system, recorded it in writing and promoted it in academic spheres. It is the Oyo dialect, and you will see and hear it the most.

The Michael Jackson video was here in my city, Salvador! The most african place outside of Africa, and I'm very proud. I also practice candomblé, the orisa, nkisi and vodun worship here and they are everywhere here. Olodumare here is passed as the Almight Creator. This is the first video of yours I watch and I loved it. I'm learning yorùbá because of candomblé (yorùbá is one of the languages we sing our songs in) but also for ancestry. Ase ooo, ore mi!

Another great video.... Edumare has to be beyond human comprehension, but humans try to assign gender to God. I always imagined God to be neutral but the narrative of a male Adam as God's image was what i was taught as a child. I also think the pot is a container that symbolises much more than food/survival, ...because the pot continues to provide blessings for me till this day. Thanks for putting the time in as always.

Fortunately, we still use 'Odu' for large pots in my dialect and 're' for leaving, so it's easy to relate with it. To Yorubas, Olodumare is formless, has no gender, keeps the universe together....

I believe in this universe the representation of the duality of olodumare can be seen in all forms. We are obsessed with who is in charge and who came first. That being said. I believe these aspects come from a unified field of energy represented as masculine and feminine. Which are just words. Two parts of a whole. The energy given in attention to this is the balance (worship). I believe by not worshiping and honoring the feminine side we are COLLECTIVELY KILLING OURSELVES. No doubt different parts of the multiverse maybe masculine driven....I believe this place was feminine driven and our ancestor masculine aspect saw the creation and took control by force hence switching the driving force to masculine hence our current state of being. We must honor our mother godess. Who is the creator of earth. I mean how blatantly wrong have I been in life with this concept. Think about this. You reference the bible where the creator says let us make man in our image and likeness. My mind knew at that moment what my heart and soul has been trying to whisper to me all my life. Sounds like someone wants to make something kinda like themselves but not an exact copy. We MANipulated this world. Raped our mother in a sense and LIED to and continue to lie to all who has come after that point. Your words just unlocked more evidence of a theory I'm studying abouta reversecurse on this planet. I can imagine the creator feminine aspect saying. Let's make a help mate and made a man to help the woman because the world was dense and required a physicallly strong being to help the woman. Not a woman from the rib but a man from the womb. First man asexually comes from the first woman and immaculate conception happens then through aeons of time we switch stories and times add characters and stories to fit the driving force behind this deception the rogue masculine energy. Could the original sin be the created over powering the creator....not the spirit but the physical beings (daughters of creator) they made...I DO NOT KNOW lol just some of the theories that came up in my spirit while listening to u. Thanks for sharing I appreciate the knowledge.

Well, Yoruba Ifa creation story clearly stated that the first human being (called Eni-bi-eni, meaning "a likeness of us) was a woman. Though, creation of Eni-bi-eni, was the second attempt to populate the earth. The first set of beings sent down to earth (called Eniyan) were largely removed from earth by a flood due to their evil ways. Though few of them survived, and are still around until this day.

I believe that it makes sene to think that Olódùmarè has no gender once everything originated from its supreme force BEING A UNITY AND INDIVISABLE THING! As Olódùmarè starts to create things, only then we can face polarities to exist such as light and dark, masculine and feminine and so on...

I'm an African-American man I have always believed, that if god or the supreme-creator god has a gender or in the least is gender presenting, its female. Women can do anything a man can do, except woman can also do what we can't: the lion's-share of human creation.

Sister I love your teaching especially that area of Odu the deep meaning which will give the perfect meaning of Oduduwa. However, you went off in the area you said God is both male and female that is destroying the being of the supreme Power. ELEDUMARE is a man and a man of war. The scriptures you quoted God / ELEDUMARE was just expressing is feeling using the situation of a mother. God said HE is a Father to Israel and the Yorubas are the head of the house of Israel. I would love to discuss more topic with you. Love 🙌🏿

Elédùmarè is Elédùmarè. Jehovah is Jehovah. They are nothing alike. Nowhere in our oral histories (including the odù Ifá) does Elédùmarè describe themself or have someone describe them as a "man," let alone a "man of war." If the idea of a God with maternal abilities bothers you and you want to rationalize related expressions as metaphors (but won't take masculine descriptions as simple expressions of God's feelings using the situation of a father), I respect it. But please, don't disrespect our spirituality; don't confuse our principles and philosophies with Abrahamic ones.
@tkspiece2310
@tkspiece2310 Жыл бұрын
No, constraing Olodumare into a gender is the preserve of Abrahamic faiths. Yoruba belief system does not seek to define physical or biological characteristics of what is considered the supreme being. After all, how can a being be supreme if they're already constrained by human attributes.

Could "odu" more technically refer to "crucible", particularly due to it's use in the creation of things?
@tkspiece2310
@tkspiece2310 Жыл бұрын
My thinking in this context is the word crucible would be a reductionist view. Odu usually references Odu Ifa. Odu can reference "knowledge" in this case a never ending one. So yes you could say the owner of a body or receptacle or crucible of knowledge. However the the reference would be missed out because you're then focused on the receptacle as opposed to the knowledge contained in the receptacle. If that makes sense.
@blackstephan9482
@blackstephan9482 Жыл бұрын
@@tkspiece2310 I agree. “Crucible” does seem to be more of a reductionist viewpoint of the idea standing behind the word. I apologize if I implied a “focus” on this expression of the meaning. Was not my intent. But I think it’s important to have a multiplicity of perspectives, particularly when exploring the multiplicity of meanings that may be derived from the various usages of any word. Greatly appreciate your response. You’ve helped increase my understanding and awareness. 🫡

@@blackstephan9482 oh no need to apologise at all. It was obvious you sought more understanding and that's the key thing. The Yoruba belief system is complex and noone knows it all. So I'm with you, discourse on matters is to be encouraged. Ire o.

Olodumare in yoruba culture was never described as masculine or feminine nor described with shapes or images nor was olodumare called a deitie they just believed olodumare was all sufficient and creator of the world who created eniyan (human) and ebora(djins) etc and sends down different deities to the world

God Is neither masculine nor feminine. You could never give human attributes to Allah the Almighty (God). Why? Because these attributes are needed for procreation (Producing offsprings) so mankind or other "creatures" could stay alive thus the race persists in existence. God Allah, the self-sufficient do not have attributes that represent neediness. Say Hello to Ifaponle Ifakunle from me.

Why does wind touching water causes SOUND lol the holy SPEAKING IDIOTS? Who captured the wind? Who captured water’s refusal? Land is young in between. Common vibration. Lol. O|o,, Olo 🧐🤨. JUST KEEP FORCING THE CHAIN AND ALL WHO HOLDS ON TO FALL WITH IT. Lol lol UNCHAIN Shelved selves. magic is thought in static. Words are dancers. Mothers are KI. Fathers are KI. The child is GOD. Simpleeeeeeeeeee. Intelligence worded down in the most simple form for “id•iot”……. Your ancestors lol lol can’t disrespect self. So who ever taught you the past can send anything disrespectful to the future is dumb. Anyways. The word idiot is FUNNYYY. The fact you don’t look to disrespect self is hiding in plain sight.
