And another thing El and Howard have in common is they were never afraid to express their love of God in the world of R&B. Howard released “Say Amen,” In 87 and I have a feeling, the public demand it at all his concerts. El’s fans love his 1994 “Heart, Mind and Soul,” mainly because he wrote it but I personally prefer his 1992 “In the Storm.” The song that will go down in history as his greatest religious expression on record will be his 1994 recording of Andrae Crouch’s “The Lord is My Light.” I get emotional every time I hear it along with “Say Amen,” and I hope they sing them both if they do a verzuz.

Hell Yes! I want to see a El DeBarge Verzuz Howard Hewett. Both were two light skin-did 80s matinee idol looking artist who could really sang! And both represented two of our greatest black owned record labels, Motown and Solar. Motown’s DeBarge Family Dynasty began with El’s mentor Bobby DeBarge lead singer of Switch in 1978, thanks to Jermaine Jackson and El brought that sound to its greatest level as lead singer of the group DeBarge. Howard became lead singer of Shalamar, in 1979, and took that group to its highest level, thanks to Leon Sylvers, of another family Dynasty.
