How do you feel about El Topo? How would you compare it to Alejandro Jodorowsky's other films? Which films would you recommend similar to El Topo? Thanks for watching!

@@YouHaveBeenWatchingFilms "Synechode, New York" is an amazing film by a Jodoworsky fan... Btw, Topo is generally pronounced closer to (toe • poe) than (top • oh).

@@billepperson2662 I want to discuss Synecdoche, New York at some point, I'm a big Kaufman fan! I was worried about mispronouncing it, I specifically check for pronunciations on Forvo because they usually have people from that region record the word, so I tried to imitate their pronunciation. I should probably look elsewhere for pronunciation guides because it's not the first time I've relied on Forvo and got it wrong. 😓

When my roommate at the time suggested we watch "Holy Mountain" and this, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Thirteen years later I'm fairly sure I still don't.

Very well made. Videos covering Jodorowsky are always welcome. Hope you will tackle his autobiographical movies.

Possibly in the future, I'd like to talk about those and Fando Y Lis 😁

I won't even try to talk about the rape scene or the controversy behind it because I think you pretty much coverrd it perfectly. I will say that I've been thinking alot of El Topo as I replay Borderlands 2. The way the world is just lawless and violent yet full of people trying to get by in a harse environment. The way the gun masters are all strange and eccentric like the main characters of the game. The way the Borderlands 2 world of Pandora feels like the world of El Topo with weird religious rituals and wacky imagery. Borderlands 2 main story may be pretty straightforward and action movie-y yet the lives of the people in it are incredibly fragile and ofter rarely in their own hands. Both have violent cults. As a movie El Topo is weird, violent, and full of weird and strange scenes. It's a movie I can't really recommend but I can't say its not worth watching though I would probably say the same for playing Borderlands 2. Also, now I kinda want to reread Blood Meridian.

Now you bring it up, I wonder if the Borderlands 2 dev team were aware of El Topo 👀. I like the comparison! Also yes, re-read Blood Meridian! I finished it a second time last week and I had a much better understanding of the book by reading each sentence carefully, sometimes a few times while googling translations 😄.

@@YouHaveBeenWatchingFilms I am a sucker for McCarthy's stories. Been meaning to at least reread The Road for awhile since it's probably been a decade and even longer for Blood Meridian. I like to hope the writers of Borderlands watched El Topo or grew up at least enjoying southern gothic tales. A Good Man is Hard to Find would fit in so well into that universe.

@@ksspook Which character? I keep meaning to go back and replay that game with a different character but I always choose the Jack doppelganger or Athena.
