El Yunque National Forest after Hurricane Maria

El Yunque National Forest is the only tropical forest in the US National Forest system. On September 20, 2017, Puerto Rico was hit by Hurricane Maria, which stripped the vegetation from the island, including El Yunque.

Over the centuries catastrophic and lesser events change forest. The ‘silver lining ‘ in this instance is the opportunity presented to study recovery under contemporary conditions.

Thanks so much for this video that shows the forest really was hit hard but is resilient and is slowly coming back! Let's hope for the best and no more hurricanes for another 30 years!

This is an important story which the world needs to know and I'm glad that the forest seems able to recover; but please, we want to be able to hear what is said and not to have it drowned out by loud, pointless piano playing.
