The guy is not a Genius but maybe he know that people are truly stupid. I mean you never heard the speakers in this vid. You hear yours. period. If your speakers were giving you the sound that those ones do then you already have these speakers. Ugh what is wrong with people? I guess the videos that show the highest resolution monitors really wow you. You cant hear anthing more then your speakers will produce. Oh and you cant taste anything on the food network unless you are there either

Nils Lofgren live being played through stage speakers, recorded by a mic at the venue then played through bookshelf speakers at a demo, recorded by a mic at said demo and finally played through the single 0.5 watt sub 1/8" diameter external loudspeaker on the back of a smartphone tucked inside my shirt pocket as I kneel here on the side of the road during rush hour, changing this flat tire. Something tells me I might not be experiencing this music as the artist intended.

To those below who wonder if you need $3,000 dollars of electronics for these speakers to sound good, wonder no more. I have a Marantz m-cr603 all-in-one and they sound stunning! It took me a long time to find budget speakers as good as my 22 year-old Celestion 3 mkii, but finally these have come along and far surpass them and about ten other pairs at up to £500 that I have tried. Just sorry that Elac is not selling as well in Mr Jones' home country as the other big names. Oth, maybe it's great to be part of something so special off the radar.

A great recording of a simple composition, in a good room, with a decent amp does not exactly showcase how they are equivalent to a $20,000 speaker.
@RennieAsh6 жыл бұрын
I'd disagree it's "20k" of sound. I've heard them, and while they are great speakers, it's not like having 20k speakers. Andrew explains everything in the video anyway. Effort goes into the engineering and design of the drivers and filter network. Building a glass fibre cone and "eagle eye" softdome speaker can be done cheap these days. These ones are more optimised and well designed :)

Great speaker.. truly wonderful sounding for the price. I first heard them on the now legendary NAD 3020 amp that was fully restored and a Onkyo CP1050 turntable with Ortofon 2M Blue cartridge . These are really really good speakers! I think they are just perfect for someone that wants a killer office or bedroom system . Excellent for anyone that wants a system at home that will sound simply amazing without dropping piles of cash. A perfect selection for anyone that takes there listening time very serious but can't afford or just refuses to pay more for a system than they did for there car.

I listen to high end equipment and speakers. I've been looking for bookshelfs that were close to my Paradigm Signature V8's so I could get rid of the towers. I bought the B6's along with the center channels for $479.00. Believe me listening to these on You Tube does not do them justice. They are absolutely wonderful and are close to what I have. You do not need subs with these speakers. That's correct...a pair of $279.00 bookshelf speakers are on par with a $10,000.00 pair of towers...and no I don't work for Elac. But to add to that I have the high end equipment that really makes them shine. But these are definitely audiophile quality hands down. Or better yet wait on the Uni-fis in April but they are twice the cost. Will they be twice as good? I'm spending the money to find out and maybe selling some $10,000 speakers

For my modest 12x12 living room I'm waiting for the ELAC B4's. I saw on the website that the B4's are for sale now. Under $200 too! So, budget allowing? I'll be buying 7 of the B4's to replace my Panasonic 2 way satellites. "Z Reviews" says the B5-B6's are sonically superior to the A. Jones Pioneer BS22's. Being a subscriber to his reviews I've found him to be accurate. Add to that, tons of commercial thumbs up towards the ELACS & Pioneers. I was hoping to hear or see a review of the new ELAC B4's first, before buying all 7 speakers. Push comes to shove? I'll bite the bullet and mail order them factory direct from ELAC without a preceding review. Last Note: ANDREW JONES ROCKS!

Any HiFi system sounds as good as its "weakest link"! The point is to get something that sounds great (personal taste) and is affordable to most of us. B5's are doing absolutely amazing job in that sense.
@TheMusicForMasses6 жыл бұрын
The purpose of every single showroom demo is to show a capability of the product (i.e. B5's in this case), hence there is the amp "out of it's price class". Every serious manufacturer does the same to test their product in their test rooms before launching it on the market as well as showing it in A/V shows across the world. It doesn't make any practical sense to show a demo of any it with some not-so-good peripherals as it can not show the true picture of the product. Buying BelCanto amp with B5's is entirely different matter. I personally doubt it that anyone with BelCanto amp budget would go for Elac B5 or 6 but than again, that is NOT a point of a showroom demo.

Nice speaker for the money but $20,000 sound? Sorry that's off the rails. I heard the B5s or B6s (can't remember which) compared to a pair of Dynaudios ($1000 Canadian) at a show in Toronto. No comparison. The Dynaudios sounded smoother, airier, more refined, better balanced, better bass, more detailed highs. The Elacs sounded a bit hooty by comparison. Of course the Dynaudios were three times the price so I would expect them to sound better... but please do not claim the B5s sound like $20,000. They don't.

I think the point they're making is that the curtains' been pulled back to reveal the wizard meaning that cheaper technology and skillful research by guys like Jones have made high quality/ low cost speakers easy to manufacture. Paying $800 for vintage Sansui speakers on Ebay is probably stupid when you can get something maybe even better for less than half the price. And were talking 50+ year old Ebay speakers.
@jorgemartin50936 жыл бұрын
The sound demonstration u used it wasnt complicated for those speakers to reproduce. It wasnt heavy music passages or more dinamic textures. Its only a tap bass player style sounding metallic as it is. Put an orchestral music with a lot of instruments playing at the same time. Im sure your pricey amplifier will do its best but im not sure those speakers. Im using at home a pair if Tannoy Cheviot in very very good condition but im playing them with a Yamaha ax 492 stereo amplifier wich is a shame...but in quiet and not a lot of sounds in a song they sound amazingly good. I have to change my amplifier. I saw a Jaqin valve amp but im not sure...ita chinese stuff. I dont trust. Anyway in Buenos Aires where i live in these times theres not many good things we can get like in the past or in the 90s.

Sounds nice but "$20,000 sound for $229"? That's some hyperbole. My impression of Elac when I heard some of their expensive floor standing ribbon speakers was they were excessively bright and sizzly in the highs. Mids and bass were about par with other brands. A tilted up treble seems to be Elacs signature sound not unlike Thiel speakers. Maybe their low priced items are better.

Who places their bookshelve speakers 10 feet apart and 4 feet away from the wall? Andrew Jones obviously strategically placed his B5 speakers to sound their best. A front ported designed bookshelves like the B&W 685 S2 would be a better choice, too bad they cost $700 USD, and here in Canada, Best Buy doesn't sell B&W, only overpriced speakers from Klipsch and Polk.

Let's get some things clear: 1. They do sound amazing....but don't get fooled they sound x10 times their price..more like twice. In the same set-up the B&W 685 s2 will walk over them in terms of detail from mids and highs... at more than twice the price though. 2. This set-up is ideal...pushed into the room..distanced from the side-walls...stands...great amp...AND MOST OF ALL that album he's playing sound amazing on EVERYTHING! Most buyers will hook them up w AVR receivers, place them on shelves and listen to badly recorded pop music. All of the sudden they'll sound like 50$ speakers. Example: I have a 10k system...just for fun I placed my brother's 120€ speakers in place of my speakers...well I was blown away! Every friend/neighbour thought they cost a thousand! Then again...they were on sand-filled stands...great amp driving them...Rega RP8 as source with Rega Aria phono stage and so on.

+SpaghettiKillah Have you got any idea what equipment he is using between the source and the speakers? Looks like a Bel Canto. It's amazing, the kind of sound you can produce with the right source and $3000 or so worth of integrated amplifier. +SpaghettiKillah actually you would be surprised. B&Ws tend to be to bright. These sound real .The most realistic speakers ive ever heard were the Magnepan 1.7s . but they aren't popular because they are priced so low.  Some people get impressed when they hear really sharp brights but I get impressed when instruments sound real. PS Equipment makes no difference as long as its quality an integrated $300 Sony receiver will sound just as good as a 5000 amplifier in a blind test. ive tested it trust me .

That's why so many people sell the LS50 .the have a low price amp and they don't sound good on a normal Amp.

Wrong! These things sound amazing with a Marantz m-cr603 all in one system at 40 wpc. Even the fact they're relatively inefficient doesn't faze the little Marantz amp. Wrong! These things sound amazing with a Cambridge CXA-60. Also, If you designed speakers and you were showing them publicly, you'd plug them into the best amp you could find, just to rinse the last little details out. That's how you keep your boss happy.

+Mick Hicks I´ve the same problem in Germany - this is the presentation from ELAC USA - but I just want to listen to them at first, I wouldn`t buy a speaker without listening, no matter which prize range or manufacturer

The B5 ELAC are hard to find in the EU and if your do they like 318 euro or more , that like 365 dollars

I can’t stand this stuff, what is a $20,000 speaker or a $229 speaker supposed to sound like? People get so focused on price=performance and forget to actually listen to the sound. You can find some great sounding cheap speakers and you can find some terrible sounding pricy speakers. Even then your room positioning, pre/pro or receiver, and amp can make such significant differences with any speaker.

Bring your $229 speakers to my house and I'll show you the difference. Yeah, you can't quantify sound for comparison, but the difference is night and day.

true a audiophile friend of mine at work came over to hear my klispch kg 2.5 loudspeaker bookshelf powered by a yammy integrated he couldn't believe the sound he bought a pair himself lol

I have no doubt that these are good value, I might even buy a pair for my computer, but they don't sound like $20,000 speakers. I have a pair of ATC SCM50 ASLT and these would disintegrate in their presence.
