Great info Tanmay. Just one thing. Weight definately indicates better build quality as you rightly pointed out but that always may not the case. Amplifier design to a large extent can vary the power requirement and hence the size of the power transformer. In the case of the subwoofer, more weight can also mean it's due to a heavier enclosure / baffle and not necessarily due to a heavier transformer. One more thing, I believe the Sonodyne sub has a class A / B amp design whereas the other two has a Class D design. Class D would mean more power efficiency at the cost of audio quality. Whereas class A/B design means more power consumption but better audio fidelity.

Hi Tanmay.. I guess you are the only one who gave good insight of these 3 sets. I am planning to buy one of these for my 11*11 living room. In the previous Sonodyne test video, you were having negative opinion for high frequencies. Actually I am a layman at these and so looking at a speaker set which require minimum inputs from me for daily viewing. I stay near to beach in Chennai and so looking for a reliable, durable speaker set which is good for both music, movies and compatible with Yamaha 3072. Also please suggest considering good service center in Chennai.

Hey Santosh, thanks for your kind words. Yes, I do have my concerns for Sonodyne's sharpness but it is controllable with the AVR settings. Considering your Port City residence, I guess, Polk Audio can be a better option and you can go ahead with it.

I went to a nearby store today to experience Sonodyne 5.1. To be honest, I didn’t like it in terms of overall sound quality. Even the subwoofer is bit week. The AVR they were connected to was Maranz AVR. It was an expensive one. Bottom line after talking to people for suggestion is if you really want a good 5.1 AVR setup, you need to spend around 1.5 lacs. Else my suggestion would be go for good soundbar like JBL 9.1 or Sony HT 29f. Atleast you will get the quality worth your expenses. That’s my personal opinion.

I spent 3 hrs today listing to Sony HTS5000 (not at all impressive), Samsung Q950a (poor bass, not gud in terms of listening music), JBL 9.1(vocal or dialogues, not sure what’s the right word, not clear, it’s gud if you want a lot loud noise and sounds coming from all directions) and finally Bose700 with subwoofer and rear. The Bose blew up all the other brands and models mentioned above in terms or sound clarity, vocals and bass. Everything is top notch but the only turn off is the price which is 1.75lac. Now one thing is clear that no soundbar can beat a dedicated 5.1 other than Bose which is quite close. So, it’s time to save some money and setup a quick call with you once the time comes. 😊
