hi Hammer tone finish always looks good. Preparation for excellent paint adhesion is almost always done abrasive blasting . This forms a dimple/etch on the surface .Equals more surface area for the paint to stick to . I use ultra fine crush glass blast media . EG This grade etches more than enough as i its to coarse for alluminium . I have used epoxy 2part primer and 2 part urethane top coat also .

yup. i love the hammer tone look. i try to always media blast everything before before coating if possible. this axle was too large for my cabinet and I'm not a fan of using my siphon feed blaster because it sends media everywhere.. the base coat (hammer tone primer) adhered great.. its supposed to be able to be top coated within a period without etching again. sort of like epoxy. they're essentially act like glue to one another.. but i guess either because the shelf life being expired or the humidity level, the top coat just flaked right off.. but that works out because i liked the hammered look anyway.. its just not UV resistant.. although, it's under the car so i don't think it'll ever really be an issue. thanks for watching.

@@callofgeorge Great stuff always enjoy a resto being done . I tried POR15 in more humidity than I would have liked , Yup it also peeled after assembled ,still that way .Its an offroad buggy doesn`t matter . On the rebuild of the car I first had the housing blasted[ at a shop] then powder coated ""gloss"" black more like semi gloss so I painted in auto 2k high gloss . The epoxy /urethane cost $$ but very durable [offroad buggy body panels ]. All my small and large parts are blasted where I can . The pistol blaster is messy little slow but effective . And you get a choice of media vs if u take it to a shop . ** funny I like the look of black but silver looks great . I`m painting the , Ac compressor/pwr str pump and alternator ,engine sump ,tail shaft all 2k high gloss metallic silver . Eng pulleys valve covers T/cover , Auto trans pan are all polished aluminium . Engine and trans high gloss sunset orange .Contrast to black underbody and brackets .
