There is a great cover version of this by comedian Peter Kay (playing his character Geraldine McQueen) & Scottish singer Susan Boyle, that was released for the charity Comic Relief in the UK. It was poking fun at the video, but it still sounds amazing. Give it a watch 😉

I was at the VIP Gala Opening Night of ABBA Voyage in London thanks to winning an ABBA Fan Club competition and I was sitting a couple of tables away from Elaine Paige! She also released a version of My Love, My Life from ABBA's Arrival album but with different English lyrics to fit into the first 1980's ABBA Musical called ABBACADRABRA. I can't remember the exact title off hand, and it is very rare to find, but if you Google on KZbin I know that it is out there for any ABBA fans who haven't heard of it as a rarity.

The chorus of this song is based on an old AꓭBA song called ‘I Am An A’ which they only ever sang on their 1977 tour. The song was used to introduce each AꓭBA member on stage where they sang a verse each. It was never officially released. There are some videos on KZbin of a live recording.

Some of the songs on the resulting album «Chess» contained elements of music Andersson and Ulvaeus had previously written for ABBA. For example, the chorus of "I Know Him So Well" was based on the chorus of "I Am An A", a song from their 1977 tour, while the chorus of "Anthem" used the chord structures from the guitar solo from their 1980 ABBA song "Our Last Summer". Ulvaeus would also provide dummy lyrics to emphasise the rhythmic patterns of the music, and since Rice found a number of these "embarrassingly good" as they were, incorporated a few in the final version. The most well known example is "One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble". One song, which became "Heaven Help My Heart", was recorded with an entire set of lyrics, sung by ABBA's Agnetha Fältskog with the title "Every Good Man", although none of the original lyrics from this song were used

British musical group "Steps" originally recorded "I Know Him So Well" for the 1999 Abbamania compilation, and the song later appeared on "Steps'" own "The Last Dance collection". It was released as a single together with "Words Are Not Enough" in 2001 as the group's fifteenth single release, and the group's last single to be released before their Boxing Day split later the same month. The single entered the charts at number five in the United Kingdom but quickly fell out of the top ten to number 14 the following week. It spent eleven weeks in total in the top 75 despite much lower sales than the group's previous singles. It also peaked at number 21 in Ireland

This is my favourite song by Elaine Page (after Memory from the musical Cats, of course), she and Barbara just were perfect in this. If there's one thing Björn and Benny are the masters of, it's writing female duets. Btw, Elaine also performed this song with Susan Boyle (who already said that Elaine was her biggest idol), worth checking out in your own time. I don't think it's a song for Tommy, though (just from my POV), but I'd LOVE to hear this sung by Floor and Irene Jansen (Floor's sister is also a fantastic singer) Edit: I always get your polls and vote, but not as a notification. It comes among suggestions, so maybe that's why many people miss it, they don't pay attention

This song is from towards the end of the second chess tournament that the musical is about. Florence (Elain Paige) whom in the first tournament was the Amercan's (Murray Head) assistant is revealing her struggles with being in love with a married man, the Russian (Tommy Körberg). In this ballad, she and the Russian's wife Svetlana (Barbara Dickson) is singing back and forth about the Russian, after he had a big fight with Florence. Both the musical Chess and some of the songs from it have been made in several different versions throughout the years. It's a masterpiece with a hint of Abba in it, being written by Björn and Benny and recorded with pretty much all the original Abba musicians. 😎

As far as I know Benny and Björn wrote this with Agnetha and Frida in mind but bit was around about the same time they split - can you imagine if ABBA had recorded it? 😃 It was Julie Covington who recorded the original "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" on the concept album in 1976. It is in my opinion the definitive version of the song and as a single it was deservedly so a massive hit all over Europe. Elaine Page recorded it in 1978 once it had been developed as a West End musical and although good, it lacks the fragileness and emotion of the original, imo. Madonna's version from the film is just 'meh' but that's just me. 💁🏼♂ Loose yourself in this Giventoe, it is utterly sublime! kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5W4gZekr6h0oZosi=Onk7SQT7qeJmPXK1
