It's really remarkable. I'm a Baroque scholar and I could easily believe this wonderful piece could date from the early 17th c. if there were such pieces (and I'd be delighted if there were such pieces from the period in Hebrew). It's really gorgeous, and the text of course is also beautiful (and such perfect diction and intonation). Amazing. I love it.

Too much affectation in the performers. They should also have dressed for the occasion and not as if they were getting on a bus. The English translation is also wanting. The music is very good Italian Baroque style (Rossi, Marini, etc.). Beautiful music, lame performance/video.

Dear Elam, it is such a pleasure to discover your music. And wha a beautiful performance! I wanted to share also with my friend's Boris Yoffe music. His Song oSongs on Hebrew text was recorded lliards and Rosamunde quartet. Though his music does not use the old language directly it is deeply rooted in that tradition (Palestrina is in reference for sure). And for me you both are the keepers of the most inner treasures in our world. Thank you and keep it up.

Ensemble Profeti della Quinta was founded in the Galilee region of Israel by the bass singer and harpsichordist Elam Rotem, and is based in Basel, Switzerland, where its members undertook further studies of early music at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. The ensemble collaborates regularly with colleagues from Switzerland, Japan and Australia, sharing with them similar musical ideas. Profeti della Quinta have been active in performing and researching hitherto neglected repertoire, such as Emilio de' Cavalieri's Lamentations (1600) and Salomone Rossi's Hashirim asher li'Shlomo (1623), the first publication of polyphony in Hebrew, which they also recorded to critical acclaim. In July 2011 the ensemble won the York Early music young artists competition, and ever since it performs regularly in prestigious music festivals and venues such as the Oude Muziek Festival Utrecht (the Netherlands), St. Michel en Thierarche baroque music Festival (France), Musikfestpiele Potsdam (Germany) and many more. Highlights of 2014 include debuts in the USA and in Japan, as well as concerts in Canada, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, France and the Netherlands. The ensemble has recorded a number of CDs for PAN Classics and Linn Records, including music by Salomone Rossi as well as compositions by Elam Rotem (see discography). In 2012 Profeti della Quinta took part in a documentary film about Salomone Rossi, flimed in his hometown of Mantua. Numerous concerts by the ensemble were broadcast live or recorded by classical radio channels such as BBC3 (United Kingdom), France Musique, Switzerland DRS2, Israel's Voice of Music and many more. Focusing on repertoire from the 16th and early 17th centuries, the vocal ensemble Profeti della Quinta aims to create vivid and expressive performances for audiences today. In particular, this is achieved through addressing the music performance practices of the period. From its core of five male singers, the ensemble collaborates with instrumentalists and additional singers where required. The Musicians Doron Schleifer, David Feldman - Canto Lior Leibovici, Cory Knight, Dan Dunkelblum - Tenor Elam Rotem - Bass, Harpsichord & musical direction Ori Harmelin - Chitarrone Superbe prestation félicitations pour l'ensemble vocal. source info: quintaprofeti.com/

Will someone please build a time machine and send Rotem back to 17th-century Venice so that he can become widely known and so that in 2022 music history textbooks will discuss him as being "the greatest student of Salomone Rossi who exceeded his master and went on to serve the great courts of Europe. His talent alone was sufficient to change the course of religious tolerance and the role of the European Jew in music history and culture."

Let us remember that some the Rabbis who decided of the final Hebrew Bible content wanted to reject the song of songs composed by King Solomon. A majority of astute and insightful Rabbis decided that the Song of Songs was an allegory of the Wedding of God and Israel. The fathers of the Church used the same Trick and decided that the Song of Songs was an allegory of the wedding of Jesus Christ and the Church........
