☝️ Just a reminder: The IRL shots are using HDR Photoshop filter, by combining +3-5 shots, with different exposure levels. that's why they look brighter in shadow areas, while maintaining sky details without bleaching. *Plus the contribution of more accurate GI/indirect lighting of course. Inorder to get the closest look: 1- The game must be captured, displayed and viewd in HDR. 2- Or just replicate the same photo processing by merging and tonemaping different aligned captures with different gamma values. (HDR to SDR workflow). There are other video comparisons where IRL vidoes are taken with a standard camera (no HDR engaged), and the results are pretty much close to the real scenes in termes of contrast and colors.

@@wanted3753 Combined with how much smoother it is (especially noticeable in VR) + more advanced physics, I'd state an unequivocal YES...maybe worth twice the price in my book! And remember how far 2020 has come since its early days. We have a lot to look forward to with 2024!

Many early reviewers did not think that 2024 was much of an improvement over 2020, but they were likely comparing photoreal cites to one another. When you fly anywhere else, the improvement is quite noticeable, and night time flying is a vast improvement, as is flying up in the clouds. I am aggravated about all of the bugs, and there are a large number of them, but overall, this promises to be a pretty major improvement.

You are not the only one. In my local area there are too many trees. Look at tekapo New Zealand in both simulators and on Google earth. 2020 shows the desert area correctly. 2024 shows it covered in trees that don't exist in real life. It's so disappointing to see it worse than 2020.

I feel like this comparison is misleading. FS 2020 doesn't look like that at all in terms of color. Saturation and contrast seem to have been boosted to make it look bad. And in Paris for example (1:08) the photogrammetry is disabled, whiwh is why the buildings don't look like the 2024 version, when in reality both games benefit of the same photogrammetry.

Ray tracing is what gives volume to reality. It is especially noticiable in trees, Paris for instance. It will need a very strong gpu but it is not far away to give a good enough approach to reality.

MSFS 2024 only uses ray tracing for shadows. It does have a new non-ray traced lighting system though.

yes i agree, although the trees in 2024 look "better" they are too big and too many in places they shouldn't be and some cities have them looking bigger than skyscrapers! not to mention all the pixelated "cubed trees" mixed in that look like they came from a retro game.

Well done to the author for taking great pains to make this video. However, there are still too many differences in the lighting situation to make many of these comparisons truly representative. To be really comparable, they all need to be taken at the same time of day and at the same date and with the same prevailing weather. That would be very hard indeed to do, so we should make allowances as best we can. That said, I think FS2024 is slightly better in most cases. However, interesting as this is, city photogrammetry is not one of the key areas I had been expecting to improve for FS2024. I have been more impressed by the differences at or near ground level in the vegetation and rock formations, and in the behaviour of water and loose surface rocks. I suspect we may yet see even further improvements to some city photogrammetry, in time.

FS 2024 looks very good on a PC but did you know that: This game is totally unplayable on Xbox X because the mouse freelook is overly sensitive. The slightest movement of the mouse results in the view spinning around and around and around probably a dozen times before stopping looking at the cockpit ceiling or floor. Career mode is not possible because of this. This problem is reported to Microsoft Flight Sim Forums, but still no response or solution. Microsoft didn't even give a refund. It's a total disgrace. I don't understand how they managed to miss this bug. You notice it the first 5 minutes after installing the game on Xbox X.
